A while ago I came up with an Earth Programme which I hereby make available to any concert programmer willing to put it on.

Finnissy - Red Earth
Ferneyhough - La Terre est un homme
Xenakis - Terretektorh
Birtwistle - Earth Dances

I'm aware that the relationship of the Xenakis title to the putative theme is largely anecdotal. But I'm not sure I care.

Would love to hear a performance of Delius's Appalachia - never ever seen it advertised in prom concert or any concert come to that - maybe with the choir and everything its not thought financially viable  Huh

It's not that expensive to put on - about the same as Sea Drift, I would have thought (and much cheaper than Belshazzar's Feast) - one baritone soloist, choir and normal (Delius) orchestra; in fact, for value for money, since the singers don't have much to do, put it on with a more substantial piece for the same forces - suggestions? (Not Sea Drift! I like it but it's hardly a rarity).

Halle Choir and Orchestra with Willard White and Richard Hickox did it in Manchester c 1994 - with A Child of Our Time, I think.

Sure, we can just make it a concert in 3 halves. It's a complete fantasy programme anyway. We could even begin with Rebel's Les Élémens...

Offbeat -you've 5 years to the Delius 150, so start knocking on the doors now!

There's a thought - Delius and Debussy, both 150 in 2012; some themed programmes there?

Perhaps a Delius/Debussy experience - not sure it would work because although both very individual and unique composers think their style is totally different from each other but then again so was Tchaikovsky/Stravinsky........mmmmmmmmm....

Gossip is going around that NK was seen meeting with Vernon Handley  Shocked but my feeling is that that might have been an April Fool  Tongue

I suppose on the last night they'll be going round the UK for national songs. Could we have something other than Men of Harlech and Londonderry Air for a change? I was looking at the new Naxos Vintage TV & Radio Classics CD mentioned in another thread and thought that perhaps Spiegl and Arlan's arrangement of traditional tunes for Radio 4 might  be suitable in place of the usual party.

Ho!  If we are to have Langgard, I move for the 16th Symphony "Deluge of Sun", and "Out of the Depths".
"The Star in the East" and "Das Auge" could also be included.  That programme will sort the men from the boys.
Cheers.

Glad to hear of another Langgaard supporter out there. Will accompany my breakfast with "Out of the deep" (Fra dybet). Don't know 16th symphony - I assume these are your favourites ?

Ho Autoharp.  I don't really know if I have any actual favourites.  I find them all fascinating and really interesting.  From what I know, he must have been a rather strange individual.  A rather lonely, "one off" man.
Cheers

Robert Simpson - any symphony
Arnold Bax - 5th symphony
Schnittke - any symphony
EJ Moeran - symphony
Lennox Berkely - anything at all!

I'm not holding me breath, though...
