As an intro to the event on 11 Nov, how about some Foulds?

A fantasy concert of my own:

'There's no Limits': a Proms Tribute to 2Unlimited

Schnebel: N.N.
Lachenmann: Nun
Barrett: NO

There should be room for some Nono in there too...

Any orchesral music by Liszt - following Noseada's superb Faust the other year.  He's now recorded another volume for Chandos of Symphonic poems so how about some of those?

Any room for a bit of balance, Tim ? Could we finish up with Der Jasager (Kurt Weill) ?

Heavens to Betsy! As I think Mort said earlier. But I'm going to be serious for a moment, and take the thread title at face value.

Who deserves a Proms performance? Well, this is a more complicated question than it seems. Are we considering 'up and coming' young composers, composers of a certain age who might be deemed to deserve one last wild ride on the Proms bandwagon before they disappear entirely, long lost obscurities, those deserving of a SECOND performance (for heaven's sakes!) etc. ...? And in any case, is a 'Proms performance' as big a deal in terms of a composer's profile as it undoubtedly once was? Heaven knows how BBC commissioning policy for the Proms will be shaped under the new RW regime; but the Proms have for many years provided a rare platform, however limited, for new work. Let's at least hope that that remains the case.  Angry

Seconded - hard to believe that there is not a single work by Liszt this year. The Dante Symphony is a much underrated work, IMO.

And I'll second Foulds (Pasquinade Symphonique no.2 is a fine work) too, and lament the total absence of all too many British composers - Arnold, Bliss, Howells, Holst, Brian (whose wonderful 10th Symphony must be due a revival soon?)

Vermoulen is the greatest Dutch composer i can think of- long overdue some exposure.
along vaguely similar lines (visionary, sidestepping convenient labels)I've been listening to Petterson's 7th Symphony -another deserving case.

Going further back:
Scharvenka:piano concerto nol.4 (stephen hough/piano)-would make a change form the usual warhorses.
