For me.....

Berg 7 early songs
Knussen Violin Concerto with Leila Josefowiz
The Vengerov late night tango thingy
Mahler 10

and more to come, I am sure  (especially when I have seen who's doing what and how the programmes fit together)

Well, I think it looks a rather good programme and am particularly looking forward to Salonen, Abbado, Davis, Barenboim and, of course, Mackerras (even if he is not doing as much as I would like). However, there's only one thing tempting enough to persuade me to travel all the way down to hear it -  Prom 39: Runnicles, Brewer, Wagner, need I say more.

It's nice to see there are some differences in Jansons and Tilson Thomas's programmes compared with what they're bringing to Edinburgh.

MF
Pedant's corner, sorry; but Sinfonia was written in 1968, which would make this a, er, 39th anniversary performance, wouldn't it?! I haven't seen the programme - how are they billing it?

I’m looking forward to the day when British music is more pominent at the proms and not some sort of appendage. There are many composers who do not get a look in at this British music festival such as Robert Simpson, Havergal Brian, Geoffery Bush, William Alwyn, Benjeman Frankel . . . the list goes on. OK, I can dream.

Your'e quite right to pick me up on this Martle- I think they may have got round it by saying 40 anniversary of its commissioning or something, I have'nt seen the blurb. Its a big thing for the Swinglers because (hearteningly imho) its been in their regular repertoire ever since. Saker-Farkel, I totally agree. There has been a festival of neglected British Music at Dorchester-on-Thames for a couple of years now (RPO basically) -lovely church, hell of a squeeze-I think its Octoberwards.

Rather more than usual, I'd say including

Ives 4 on 17th July
Varese Ecuatorial (+ Britten Piano Concerto) on 31st July
Sibelius on 15th August
and a couple of concerts conducted by Knussen.

I winced when I noticed Yusupov's Viola Tango Rock Concerto - hideous audience-grabbing title. No doubt I'll tune in to see if my worst suspicions are confirmed.

I'm looking forward to a lot, I feel the programme is better than for several years.
Bach with Suzuki, and Rameau with JEG in particular.

I look forward to a Proms season without bleedin' Rhapsody in Blue.

(Dives for cover!)

Yes, yes, I know you like it - but I DONT!
