Apparently Michael Nyman has been commissioned to write a grand dramatic cantata:

"Слава совершенцву великого пять-летного плана нашего великого вождя"
("Glory to the completion of the Five-Year Plan Of Our Great Chief")

Sir Peter Maxwell-Davies, as Comrade Technologist of The People's Musick has been asked to write a magnificent Ode:

"о раскрытьем Оружия Массого Поражения ужасних врагов Великого Союза - ну да, они реально там сушествовали, но правилньно без дураков"
("on the discovery of Weapons Of Mass Destruction of the enemies of our Great Union - oh yes, they were really there, no really, Scout's honour")

(to avoid any accusation of exclusivity, Sir Peter shall be compelled to write this Ode for people who need not necessarily be able to play any orchestral instruments - an unneeded talent in a neo-con dictatorship, and one which has proved so divisive hereto).

Finally there will be a grand finale called THE THREE NEOCONS in which the soloists will be Martin Kettle (Hero of Neo-Con "Labour"), Nick Cohen (Honoured Pundit of People's Piffle) and Timothy Garton Ash (1st Brigade of Heavy Turncoats).  Talent or ability play no role in the inclusive performances held to celebrate the Dear Leader's Accession - without election - to the Leadership of the Supreme Soviet

Reiner T:  if you must post your political views here could you please not do it in a colour so lurid that makes the eyes water?  Thanks.

It's not true that much of the 08 Proms programme will have been sorted pre-Wright. A few of the foreign orchestras will probably have had dates pancilled in, though not necessarily their programmes settled. Otherwise, the majority of it will be down to the present incumbent. And anyone who has had anything to do with any leading festival knows that programme committees don't work. The best festivals (including the Proms) are the product of one person's tastes and prejudices, like 'em or loathe 'em. There are rumours of a lot of British music this year, by the way.......

Please God - not more than one of them! Isn't one already at least two too many?

...Well yeah, if they've got the skill to do it and appeal to the target audiences. This would I'd have thought involve a bit of networking and road testing before making the calls to set it up if you do things properly, and have a seamless plan B and C ? One of the informed hunches we've had here about RW is that he doesn't persuade  (a la John Harvey Jones) well, so its all conspicuously led from the front with an awkward gap\before the`substantive translation of the edict.

Probably not quite the right approach to be instructing long-term members how to post when you've only been here for a few hours, Eddie ... Wink

On the other hand, if you're who I think you are, then I'm sure we can all look forward to some well-informed and interesting posts from you, so welcome!

Well I have posted here before, time-is-now, though it was quite a long time ago. But posting in lurid red that hurts the eyes does seem a bit unreasonable.  Anyway, I have no idea who you think I am, but I strongly suspect you're wrong since I can't imagine any reason why you would know. Afraid I don't have any further insights to offer  -  sorry to disappoint!

And marbleflugel, I would say that good festival directors always 'lead from the front'  -  e.g. Sir John Drummond and Brian McMaster. They do also need a good network of international music contacts, yes, and that's something which I would imagine Mr Wright will have.
