Hi,

Yes I realised that after I posted. The EIF website does show 2008 as the main title on its site, even though it had 2007 events.

SFO playing

Copland Fanfare for the Common Man
Seeger Andante for Strings
Adams Short Ride in a Fast Machine
Prokofiev Piano Concerto No 3
Tchaikovsky Symphony No 1 ‘Winter Daydreams’
Ah, that would be the concert that gave rise to the following infamous poster:

A performance of Janáček's Glagolitic Mass with Boulez conducting the BBCSO seems to be pencilled in for 15 August.

I have no further details on the rest of the programme or performers. It will probably be the original version (ed. Wingfield), which Boulez has conducted before.

Janacek's 'Glagolitic Mass' conducted by Boulez/BBCSO on 15 August.   A consummation devoutly to be wished, opi.   Smiley

It is indeed. I could swear I'd mentioned that above, but I'm damned if I can find the post in question now.

Britten: Noye's Fludde

Noye: John Tomlinson

According to John Tomlinson's website, he will sing the title role in Boris Godunov at the Proms on 17 August.  I'd mark that one down as a highlight even before I've seen the rest of the programme.

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

I hope to God he'll be singing it in Russian.

On 17 April, the BBC Singers are recording an evening of choral music by Messiaen, Manchicourt and other composers represented in the 2008 Proms season from the BBC Singers. The concert will be preceded by a discussion with Roger Wright, Controller of Radio 3 and the BBC Proms and David Hill, Chief Conductor of the BBC Singers, about the BBC Singers' role in this year's BBC Proms season.
