Well...it was 1935

A fruitful day.    Autumnal gardening, this morning; a couple of mb postings; more gardening; then indoors for a performance of the Berlioz Requiem, Op 5.     A quite grand performance by the Tonhalle Orchestra, Zurich Swiss Romande Orchestra, Joseph Kaiser (tenor), and the Swiss Chamber Chorus conducted by Marek Janowski.     My first memory of the Requiem was a 1959 recording by Beecham, in mono, but stereophonic in its impact.    I attended a later performance, in the early 70s, at St Paul's Cathedral and, although Colin Davis comes to mind, it could have been Bernstein.   An ideal acoustic for the merging of orchestra and mass brass bands, once you are aware, depending on where you are seated, whether the sound is coming or going!

A couple of odd sonic blips on my MD recording from DAB.    Swishy sound for a few seconds and on the second occasion I noticed that the fascia said 'can't record' before instantly continuing.  Ah, well, let's move on.
