If you have a Sky + box (satellite), or a Top-Up TV box, and BT Vision (both terrestrial), you may know about one-touch series link for recording programmes. It enables you to record all the programmes in a series, instead of having to set every episode or programme individually. Great system, and it seems to work for all channel on Freeviews (on my Top Up Thompson recorder) - except for the radio channels, which is annoying! My friend, who has Sky, says this applies to Satellite too. I would think it applies to Virgin Cable too.

I like to record the radio dramas on BBC R3 & R4, and like to listen to comedies, like Just a Minute, and would also like to record all of the Proms broadcasts at a touch, as well as other progs on R3, like I can with the TV progs (not that I record many of those). But, no can do.

I think it is just because the programme makers (i.e. the BBC) have not enabled this function.

Would anyone else find such a function useful?

Same for freeview too, and yes it is a pain that it doesn't work at the moment.

Well, if you are prepared to put up with DAB, the Pure Bug and Pure Bug Too both provide scheduling which can be set to record either on a day to day basis, or for repeated recordings at the same times on any given day of the week, every weekday (Monday to Friday), every day, or every Saturday and/or Sunday. Pretty handy, which is why I got two. Wink

[Neither model can record from two different stations simultaneously, however, (not even if they are on the same DAB multiplex), which is one way in which the old Psion Wavefinder was more versatile. On that you can record any number of stations on the same multiplex simultaneously. Very useful when there is something you want on Radios 3, 4 and BBC7 at the same time.]

For "the bug", check out Amazon marketplace, (go to "ELECTRONICS & PHOTO" and search for "pure bug". Looks like there are only a few available now, and the prices are climbing. Both I got were "factory reconditioned" and have been fine. The first I got has been running day in, day out, for over 2 years now, without problem. Make sure you update the firmware, whichever you get. The main advantage of the "bug too" is the separate standby/on switch. On "the bug" you have to use the central 'joy button', which can be a bit fiddly (oo-er).

Both versions use essentially the same firmware, and once that is updated "the bug" has the same EPG facilities as the "bug too". Of what's on offer there at the moment, I would go for the factory reconditioned "the bug" at around £45 + p&p.
