Era solo un mio sospetto

« on: 14:13:41, 30-05-2007 »

I just bought Handel's L'Allegro (see Happy Board for reason for celebration) through itunes.

It downloaded OK and transfered to my ipod.  However when I set it to play, the first track shows for a second, then skips to track 2, which then skips to track 3 and so on and starts playing at track 8.

Any suggestions how to make it play?

DB, do other tracks from other albums play? Does the Handel play in iTunes on your pc?

It could be that you need to do a factory reset on the iPod.

Hi IGI.  Thanks for your interest again.

Yes, I can play tracks on the computer.  Yes, other tracks play on the ipod.  Shall I reset the machine?

The reset might work, but it sounds to me like the tracks that don't play on the iPod were incompletely transferred to the device from the computer.  You might consider wiping those tracks from the iPod and copying them over from iTunes once again, making sure not to interrupt the transfer.  Just a thought.

Thanks, Colin/  Your diagnosis sounds about right.

I've tried File/Add File to Library and I've tried the Import option, but no luck.  I tried deleting a track, then I could not import it as it was no longer on disc, and I had to restore it from the Recycle Bin.

Any ideas

Have you tried the factory reset? (hold down the Menu and Select parts of the clickwheel for about ten seconds until the Apple logo appears, then wait for it to reset).

Did you purchase the tracks from the iTunes store? If so, you ought to be able to enter the "Purchased" list (underneath "iTunes Store" in the "STORE" category in the leftmost pane) and simply drag the offending tracks on to the iPod (in the "DEVICES" category). "Import" and "Add to Library" shouldn't have to enter the equation.

If you bought a physical CD and ripped the tracks to your hard disk, just hunt down the mp3s, bring them back to your iTunes library, and send them to the iPod.  If push comes to shove, you may need to rip them from the CD again, but it's best to make sure the tracks aren't already on you hard disk (i.e. that they've been erased) before trying this.

By the way, if none of this makes any sense, you might need to download the latest iTunes update, and then you'll see what I'm talking about. The reset is worth a shot too.

Thanks, Colin

I bought online from Itunes.

I have tried listening to the tracks on the ipod from the "Purchased" playlist and the same thing happens.

If I get the "Purchased" playlist up on screen, where is the DEVICES category to drag the tracks to?

I'll be away from the computer for the next few days.

DEVICES should be in the pane along with "LIBRARY," "STORE," and "PLAYLISTS" on the left-hand side of the iTunes window.

If this doesn't clear it up, it might be worth contacting Apple. Maybe you didn't download everything you bought? Good luck.

I have just got round to backing up L'allegro on a disc.  I then put the disc back in and loaded it on to the computer - no track titles of course, but at least I can now hear the tracks I bought last year for the first time.

Good.  Haven't a clue what was going wrong.
