I can't seem to work out how to copy text from a PDF file, so that I could paste it into a Word document or other type of text file. Can anyone help me with a set of instructions on how to do it? I have Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0, on a PC running with Vista.

On the Acrobat toolbar, you should see a button marked "select".

Click on this, then select the text by holding down the left mouse button.  Then right-click, which will bring up a dialogue box offering the option to copy to the clipboard.  Do this, then paste into the Word document as per usual.

Thanks from me, PW! I'd more or less decided that was impossible in Adobe 7.0, although I used to have a previous version of Adobe where it was very easy to click on anything and highlight it. I hadn't realised that the 'Select' option in the toolbar still allowed you to do that. Undecided

The other thing I can't do any more in Adobe, that used to be very easy, is use the Advanced Editing > Text function to edit little bits of text - delete letters, change fonts etc. If I do this with a PDF that's been sent to me by anyone else, it usually tells me I don't have the correct fonts installed or something like that. Never used to be a problem before I upgraded. Sad

Permit me a rant if you will. Embarrassed

I used to like Adobe Acrobat Reader, but the latest version was either installed by another member of the family, or installed itself, and I am no longer able to forward an entire document to myself by email (so that I can save it on my own PC).

I have a different experience - I don't know if this is because I'm using Acrobat Reader 8 on a Mac, or whether it's something to do with the way the pdf was originally saved - but I have a pdf here which will only let me 'select' text in boxes, and copy as images; won't let me 'select all'; and when I try 'save as text' I get ... an empty text file. Hmph.

Now I'm confused...whyever not?  What happens?  Have you looked on the Help/Troubleshooter?

The Help facility on that (and various other software) tends to make me feel I know less rather than more after consulting it.

I've got Adobe Reader 8 on XP, it lets me click and drag to select text without clicking on any buttons in the toolbar. When I do CTRL+C it then gives me an error saying that it can't copy to the clipboard but it has done it, because I can then do CTRL+V to paste into a text file or whatever.
