Author Topic: Reading digital data from ancient cassette tapes  (Read 134 times)

We have a quantity of MIDI data saved long ago on cassette tapes. Does any one know of a program capable of reading this sort of digital data from a cassette tape and turning it into numbers? The whistles and shrieks sound rather like those emitted by old-fashioned modems. It would be possible to write our own little programme to analyze the peaks and troughs, but it must have been done already by some musical person must not it?

Sid,I see a banner above your post advertising a download by nch who as I recall looked pretty reliable.I have been toting a grotty oldbag of cassettes for some years now and I need to get round to something like this myself. Good luck on your quest. Just now I came across a recording device that will solve an issue that has been vexing me for weeks, so a good augur board-wide I hope.
