Please can someone advise me. I went to bed on Thursday night, having updated a podcast on itunes. A little balloon came up in the bottom corner to say I had a corrupted file and to run Checkdisc. The file was something to do with volume. When I turn on the pc next day, and open itunes, lo and behold, there is no music there. The files are all in the My Music folder, and I backed them up recently, but I can still not use itunes to get updated podcasts, enter new CDs etc. I reloaded itunes from www.apple.com/ipod/startThe itunes window is still empty of music. How do I get itunes to connect with My Music library? Any suggestions gratefully received.

Donbasilio,
It sounds as if you need to re-import them. Click on 'File' in the top left hand corner of the screen, then click on 'Import' from the drop-down menu. This should open on your 'My Music' folder. Do a test with one album first and try importing that.

Inquistor (Mark in the parallel world isn't it?)
Thanks, very much.
I have imported one track, with purchased art work.
Do I have to go through importing every individul track.
This is a pain, as I spent all last Friday evening importing my entire library from another pc.
Echeveria - Thanks for the reply - I posted here as I have spent sometime mulling over the Apple discussions page with no obvious way of finding out the problem.

I have a horrible feeling it does mean this, though you should be able to select/import whole albums? I wonder whether importing the files from another PC might have been behind the problem? Good luck with it all, Mark

Mark I found File>Import Folders, pressed the button, and as we virtually speak, some little box has a green light wizzing around has it appears to import everything in the folder. I'll let you know the outcome. Talking about ipods, I noticed you recently mentioned on the other place that you have a way of sending corrected info to Gracewing. How do you do it?

DonB,
Once you have edited the disc's details, before you import the tracks, although you could also do it afterwards, click on the 'Advanced' tab in the top menu bar. Then click on 'Submit CD track names' and it will send the info off for others to benefit from. Sometimes you have to 'edit' what you send off - I categorise my recordings into finer sections than 'Classical' and 'Opera', which iTunes offers, into 'Orchestral, 'Choral', etc, so Gracenotes will ask me to select a category it recognises before allowing me to submit my details.
If someobody else then pops a CD into their tray, iTunes will offer you a choice as to which info to select. If you get given this choice, it's worth looking at both options. A lot depends on your own preferences, as it's important that your discs, especially of you're planning on 'ripping' a lot, conform to a 'house style', e.g. all composers are listed with surname first, all orchestral artist entries start with the conductor, making searching on the iPod easier to locate specific performances etc.

Thanks a lot, Mark I will certainly do this in future. Does itunes have a category of Opera? I thought that absolutely everything prior to 1900 was Classical as far as they were concerned. I appear to have restored my library. No details of Last played or play count, but it is better than losing the lot, or spending hours putting backup discs and pressing buttons. Again, it was thanks to you. You told me the magic word import which I could then look up in the help menu. A problem with these IT help menus is they are using jargon, and the question is what on earth the jargon means in the first place. So bouquets to you.

Cheers, DB! Yes, iTunes does have an opera category. iTunes is not perfect, but I do find it does a reasonably good job. If you're downloading music (I haven't done so much) then it's search facility isn't great...you often have to try a slightly different search parameter. As for older recordings, a little tip: http://www.classicalmusicmobile.com/catalog/ is worth investigating....out of copyright recordings (so early stereo just becoming available) at the amazing price of €1.00 per work...that's right! So a recording of Decca's 1950s stereo Don Giovanni with Cesare Siepi, Lisa della Casa etc for just one Euro!

Yippee!! My itunes library is back in use (only taking an hour or so to transfer from pc to ipod) Even got the podcasts, though playlists have gone. Never mind. I can have fun all over again. I have found out how to submit my info to Gracenote. If anyone cares to load Kuijken's recording of Handel's Partenope, they will have me to thank for consistent info over 3 disks. Also name of composer with surname first. And I have resealed the shower tray. I feel
