This is a bit off topic but has anyone here any experience of using Linux? I've been trying to install Ubuntu and Kubuntu on my old PC but have had all sorts of problems - I won't go into details unless anyone replies. Audacity is one obvious application if I can get the OS to work.

I have a very little experience with Ubuntu, Freespire, and a few others.  My main little experience comes with installing though, after that I usually gave up.  Smiley

Thanks for reply Michael.

I've got Kubuntu running OK on my old PC, although I've had quite a few problems. It does seem rather unstable, in that various unknown things can make the whole thing grind to a halt. I had an error a week ago which meant I had to re-install the whole operating system. It is, however, working now and is playing an mp3 of World Routes in the room next door.

Dyne is pretty good; it's a boot-disk, so you just put it in to your computer (provided it's new enough to try and boot from the cd drive), and should boot in to linux directly; ther're a bunch of audio applications on the CD.  So if you know how to burn iso's to cd, you might want to check it out:

http://www.dynebolic.org/

There are a few different types; dyne:bolic and pure:dyne are for multimedia-related uses.

(dynebolic contains audacity I think; at least according to the review http://www.linux.com/article.pl?sid=07/03/29/1738243 it does )
