Last night we stayed up late chatting and snacking, and we had on TV the film
Humoresque (1946). I didn't watch/follow the film closely, Joan Crawford was never a favourite actress of mine. I thought Oscar Levant was brilliant on piano, and I was intrigued by the violin playing of ex-boxer John Garfield and just had to do a quick enquiry via IMDB.
Sure enough IMDB says 'John Garfield's violin "performances" are actually played by two professional violinists standing on either side of him, one to bow and one to finger. The actual music was performed by Isaac Stern.'
Watching the film I just couldn't work out how it was done, where were the two players, one bowing and one fingering? Really?
