Sounds like a good idea to me. I can't remember the last time I heard a programme dedicated to movie music on R3, although I know it happens.

I was intrigued to learn that Barry Gray, who wrote most of the music for Gerry Anderson's Supermarionation puppet extravaganzas was another pupil of Matyas Seiber (my Dad, not me)

Adding more boards...

It might be an idea to let things settle before we add any more boards, especially music related ones.

The main section is quite large at the moment, and if we were to add anything more, we would need to shuffle the forum sections about, either creating a new section for forums that don't directly fit into r3 programming or by creating parent child boards as has been done in the collectors corner.  This might confuse current members though, so it might be an idea to keep the idea in mind for the next shuffle.

Good idea though.

out and about

I have put up the renoir landscape event at the national gallery in the nightwavesy area but we could have an out and about board to hook up for trips to wigmore hall, proms etc.

Anywhere mentioned on radio 3 or actually being broadcast on radio 3 ?

Is that too much related to radio 3 Huh??

I suggest using the Concert Hall section for all forthcoming events.

Ballet, Wigmore Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Coventry Methodist Hall, Warwick Arts Centre, Bedworth Civic Hall.  Whatever.

As this site develops specific sections can be created in line with demand.

It is good to discuss film music and have a thread for that. I am all for it. Like John W suggests we should have it on concert hall section for now. Later we should see how things develop. Excellent idea Tonybob. We have interesting people on board who know a lot on the subject. We could have interesting post from some of them.

No t-p. I didn't say that. In that message I was referring to Byron's Wigmore Hall etc which IS now in 'Concert Hall' section.

That's right, if this film music subject is popular and another section remains very quiet then a change can be made. Michael is trying to keep a tidy set-up with a main page that isn't cluttered with too many sections.

I was discussing film music on Riskin thread. May be we can use that thread? I don't know much about music written for music. It is my recent interest and curiosity.

I'm no expert either, but only recently have i realised the importance music has in film.

listen to the soundtrack for capricorn one by Jerry Goldsmith.

Robert Caulfield: Mr Albaine, how much do you charge to dust a field?
Albain: Twenty five dollars.
Robert Caulfield: I'd like to hire your plane.
Albain: That'll be a hundred dollars.
Robert Caulfield: You said you charged twenty five?
Albain: Twenty five dollars to dust a field, but you ain't got no field because you ain't no farmer, which means you ain't poor and I think you're a pervert!
Robert Caulfield: Okay, one hundred.
Albain: One hundred and twenty five.
Robert Caulfield: What?
Albain: Because you said yes to a hundred too quick, which means you can afford a hundred and twenty five.

It will take some time to work myway through this list, tonybob. I don't have much time at the moment, but I will try to return to your list.
At the moment I am listening to Composer of the week Elizabeth Maconchy String quartet 5. I am thinking that since I live in Ireland now I should know about her. She is dame elizabety Macorchy. I never heard of her and her music is not played here.

It's music for a television series rather than for a film but I always have a soft spot and get quite nostalgic when I hear the music for the 1960s Robinson Crusoe series, composed by Robert Mellin and Gian-Pierro Reverberi.

There's a very interesting article about Scott Bradley in the March BBC Music magazine. Bradley wrote the 'scores' for the early Tom & Jerry cartoons. Only now do I realise what detailed thought had gone into writing those scores for very short action sequences and sound affects. The man was a genius. Only he could compose the appropriate chord for when Tom runs into the path of Spike the Dog   Cheesy

he was a pupil of Schoenberg, i think.
I read an interview with Simon Rattle where he said that there is a part in Gurrelieder that sounds just like T&J.
Without having a score to hand, i can only describe it as the bit that goes:
durr -du-du-du rat tat tat.
