When you go into your profile and look at your stats summary, just under the bar chart are your most used boards by posts and your most used boards by activity.

Is anyone else's activity analysis backward?  Nothing major - just a small correction to do sometime.

John,

With the impending likelihood that people will be able to see personal stats of other users, coudl you address this issue.  I really can't see how my personal stat summary relates to my real posting activity......

Cheers

tommo,

My data looks OK

e.g. most popular postings (for me) 258 posts in the Coffee Bar sounds right (what a saddo!)

most used boards means your % contribution to a topic, for me the highest percentage contribution: I've posted 75% of the postings in the Useful Links topic, which is correct (three out of the four postings)

Is that how you understand the data now?

I think the data for 'Most popular boards by posts' is correct

The Coffee Bar  215
Classical Music on Radio 3  62
Welcome Section  47
General Radio 3 Discussion  29
The Opera House  24
The Concert Hall  13
Suggestions  12
Making Music  10
Announcements  9
CD Review  9

but the little Blue bars are probably not.

On the 'Most popular boards by activity' side of things, I'm unsure......

Classic FM  16.67%
The Vinyl Knowledge Bank  14.81%
CD Review  10.98%
Audio and Hi-Fi Equipment  8.70%
Other  7.14%
Making Music  6.58%
The Early Music Show.   6.52%
Suggestions  6.49%
Welcome Section  6.47%
The Concert Hall  6.10%

I don't spend 16.67% of my activity on Classic FM!

Or does this side of the chart suggest that I am responsible for 16.67% of the activity on the Classic FM board?

Also the blue thingies look a bit dubious......

Ta muchly,

Tommo

Yes.

The blue histogram bars look ok to me   Tongue

Thanks for the clarity on what 'popular by activity actually means'.  As these are 'personal' stats I thought it would be more natural to show where an individual spends most of their time.  Don't really think that what is shown is particularly useful........

Anyway all that aside - How bizarre.  Histogram bars for 'popular boards by activity' are now OK.

But the bars for popular boards by posts' are all over the shop.

Does anyone else have this problem?

But tommo, if you are not posting on a topic does it matter how much time you spend reading it?

The blue bars are still your percentage in each topic. I have 258 topics in Coffee Bar but it's a thin sliver because it's a small percentage of that huge topic. It might be MY most popular posting place but my contribution is quite small. People will see that if they look at the blue bar.

It's the NUMBER of postings PER topic you want people to know? THAT is the NUMBER on the popular boards chart.

Quite - that bit's not really important.  But it is good to understand what that side of the stats actually means now.  (i.e. the percentage of that board which has been contributed by you)

So it's not the TIME spent you want measured it's the NUMBER of postings PER topic?

Er, no.  I just want to understand what the blue bars mean.  They seem to bear no resemblence to the stats.  For example, 215 posts in Coffee Bar, and 9 in CD Review, and yet the bar for CD Review is much longer than the miniscule bar for the Coffee Bar.  Are the bars supposed to represent something different from the numeric stats (and if so, what is it?), or is there a glitch somewhere?

tommo,

On the left chart you've got the important bits

a) number of posts

b) how much those posts contribute to the topic (blue bit)

The size of the blue bit for a topic is the same in both charts. It means your percentage.

Have you got a topic that is in BOTH charts? If so see the blue bit is the same size.

For me CD Review same blue bit, and my 13 posts are just 15.85%

Got it?  Undecided Roll Eyes Grin Tongue

Now where is that <pennydropsemoticon>.........?

Thanks for helping my poor briain on a Friday afternoon, John.  All makes sense now.  I have some very small blue bars, so I obviously don't contribute a lot Sad, although my 'suggestions' bar is increasing nicely Wink

Well done tommo. Wink

I have to say the first time one looks at the left chart it's not obvious. Personally I'd delete ALL the blue bits, just have the two columns of numbers.

The numbers in left chart says where you post most.

The numbers in the right chart suggests you are one of the main posters in those topics.

Nearly half my posts are in the coffee bar  Roll Eyes It's those darn quizzes  Tongue

Now if we were to re-arrange the Coffee bar into what they call Child Boards - Waffle, Quizzes, Other Chat, then we'd get separate figures for those. Something to think about but I expect most folks like the Coffee Bar the way it is  Smiley

Is it necessary to have the "total time logged in" statistic? I find it a real disincentive to hang around here. Perhaps that's a good thing and I might end up with a cleaner car and a tidier garden. I've recently just passed the four-day barrier and it doesn't seem like a cause for celebration.

It's not necessary, it's just there. I suppose it's not necessary to LOOk at that statistic  Wink

My total is embarrassing  Roll Eyes I just leave the page up for ages while I'm working on other stuff. Yeah I know I do a lot of work for the forum in the background, but I'm a lousy moderator because I don't read half the threads. Michael seems hardly here and we never did split up the mod duties. I know I can rely on folks to alert me about any bad goings-on  Smiley
