Is no-one finding any passion in Private Passions ? Which other R3 programmes are more deserving of their own board?

Discovering Music?

Night Waves?

Ian Burnside?

oh and the up and coming
Classical Collection?

Is it time for another poll?

Well, as the previous proud holder of the 100% posting record on the Private Passions board, I have no objection to it being jettisoned !

As for other programmes, on the popular programming thread Tommo mentions Composer of the Week which seems a good candidate.

I'd vote for a CotW board. Just catching up with Maconchy string quartets from last week, and would like to know who likes 'em.

Interesting that although people like to waffle around here, there isn't much apparent enthusiasm for the talk-infested programmes like Private Passions, Night Waves or Burnside. Discussions about the music and composers seem to curry more favour. (Not to mention favouring more curry  Cheesy )

This is a good programme to discuss. There are different composers every week. I think I tried to discuss Elizabeth Macconchy somewhere. I liked to listen to her music (quartets). I think if a person capable to write so many of them then perhaps he/she has something to say.
I am not sure if her music is very distinct from other music of the period. May be he will hold some place in music history.

Personally I would dump the sections called 'Popular Programming' and 'Specialist Programming' and just add some child boards to 'Classical Music on R3'.  The child boards I would have would be:

CotW
Breakfast
Po3
CD Review
Music Matters

These are 'cross genre' programmes

And then under Radio 3 Listener Discussions I would have child boards for different genres

The 4 existing child boards, plus Early Music

Anything else can just get a thread under "Classical Music on R3"

Just my opinion.....

Tommo

I'm not sure that Breakfast or Music Matters really need their own boards.
There doesn't seem to be that much interest in them and there is another place to discuss them (and perhaps we should be showing some degree of complimentarity here).
Otherwise, I would reduce the number of child boards down to:
Composer of the Week,
CD Review,
Performance on Three,
(Lunchtime Concert?).
If there is then an upsurge in interest in any particular programme, extra child boards can be added then.

Agree that moving Early Music to the same section as Choral Music, New Music and World Music is a good plan, but I'd also add that perhaps Speech and Drama should have it's own board, within which there could be child boards for things like Drama on Three.

Might there also be some mileage of moving CD Review to Collector's Corner?

Just a thought.

Thanks for the input here. I'll talk to Michael when he returns.

Keep the ideas coming in.

But meanwhile I'll set CotW up and find old relevant threads to move into it.

Thanks BobbZ. I moved your William Darlymple thread to the CMoR3 board  Smiley

So this board is now CotW and I've moved relevant threads into it

Not sure CotW is 'specialist programming' but with length of names and for tidyness we only have room for 4 child boards in a main board.
