Nutcracker? B*llbreaker is more accurate. Why are they playing all this stuff back to back?

Who on earth has the time to listen to it all?  Dont they know people work?

Some of the laziest and most misguided programming yet I feel. Huh Tongue

A squillion hours of Tchaikovsky? A Bach Christmas? What a waste of airtime! (and I like Tchaikovsky and have many recordings, just dont want hours of it for days on end!)

I dont know a single person who will hear all of this.

Why not just serialise it weekly? That way people CAN hear it, and other regular -and in my view, better -more varied shows will be heard.

very sad. Embarrassed I'm not happy.

It's certainly not particularly creative programming to grab a composer's output and play it all. At least at the moment we do seem to have some people who are discovering Stravinsky for themselves though.

I do hope the juxtaposition wasn't prompted simply because Strav was the closest major Russian on the shelf...

But count yourself lucky, Rob. It could have been the Telemann Experience. Don't get me wrong. I love Telemann. I'm listening to Telemann now. But the cantata Uns ist ein Kind geboren has the catalogue number TWV 1:1451. Anyone out there want to hear all that back to back?

On the other hand I've never heard a Telemann piece which did nothing for me. And some of the concertos are simply fantastic. And actually I'm rather fascinated to contemplate what the opera Flavius Bertaridus, König der Longobarden might be like.

Ahem.

Totally agree. After this week-long bombardment I feel that I don't want to listen any Tchaikovsky ever again. And that is really sad.

Don't they realise that non-stop 24/7 anything will turn people off.

Plus, anything with the word "Experience" tacked on at the end is usually a good sign to stay far far away from it at all costs.

What really made my gorge rise was the tacky Valentine's Day verse competition, linked in with Tchaik's oh, so Romantic music...

Classic FM, Raymond Gubbay, yes; R3 - pass the bucket please.

After Newsnight on Friday there was at railer for the TE which was approximately:
'The Tchaikovsky Experience continues on radio 3 with a week devoted to playing the complete works of Tchaikovsky and his SUCCESSOR Stravinsky'

I almost kicked the TV in.

Yes, Tchaikovsky never intended for his work to be 'dis-played' in this way, and if he was conducting for all those hours his arms would have dropped off!

There is something very wrong at radio3....but then, we all know that....

Perhaps we should have a letter writing campaign, or net petition?

Lord Byron,

LOVE your avatar. You are the only other person I have come across who has even heard about them. Keep spreading the word.

I agree with Lord Byron. R3 ? Total turn off. Something badly amiss with programming. Seems to be heading back to the fifties. Target audience aged 80+

BTW can you get "sponsered" corrected please ? Very annoying to have Sponsered Links. Don't think sponsors will be amused.

I must admit that I am finding the Tchaikovsky experience rather tedious.....
I LOVED the Bach Christmas, and I didn't think I was going to, but every time you turned the radio on there was another example of brilliant compositional technique, or splendid 'authentic' performance - I think quite honestly the problem is that Tchaikovsky isn't as interesting as Bach!! I mean, Sleeping Beauty AGAIN, Nutcracker AGAIN, 1812 overture AGAIN......
I find Stravinsky more interesting, but The Soldier's Tale had an actor with a very plummy voice as narrator, which I found inappropriate...

I am just as optimistic about the whole thing like you Lord B.
I myself am tired of the whole thing and would not mind it is all going in one big bang.
