Two of my most treasured LPs from the '70s received a spin last night:

Shostakovich's Symphony No. 14, Galina Vishnevskaya, Marc Rechetine, Slava conducting soloists from the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra (Melodiya)

Short interlude, large glass of Highland Park

Lutoslawski's Cello Concerto, Slava the soloist, Orchestre de Paris conducted by the composer (EMI)

Hopefully someone of greater skill will do something iformally n memoriam, but (in connection with an existing project involving a cellist, but off a tangent from it) I found myself penning a few cello dots just as I read Mary's post. I hope there's a glimmer of Slava in there. RT's lovely story just sums the guy up.

My Rostropovich representation in vinyl is of him conducting Tchaik 4--exciting stuff.
