Yes, welcome! I'm sure your contributions to the board will be a welcome addition.

Hallo everyone,

Just like other members here, I overlooked the 'welcome' page; in fact it took me a little while to fathom the site out at all, but I assume to have grasped the salient bits.

So, by way of introduction:  My nomenclature henceforth is dotcommunist, in reality I'm Alistair Zaldua, a composer and conductor born in london, eng-land.

Whilst at the Birmigham Con, I studied composition with James Dillon later progressing into self-exile, - to Freiburg actually (about 12 years ago) to continue postgrad studies with mathias spahlinger. In case anyone was wondering, it was here that I experienced Phil Blumes' first ever lentil soup. Unfortunately, I  never got to see another one.

I currently live with partner in Karlsruhe, work on a freelance basis, and conduct the Ensemble des Instituts fuer Neue Musik, MHS Freiburg. a grand title indeed.

My current influences come from film: work of Paul Sharits, Hollis Frampton and, lately, Rudolf Arnheim. I enjoy the uniqueness of musical performance, both electronic and acoustic, as a composer, listener or performer, and am always disappointed at 1) unnecessarily safety measures, and especially
2) belanglosigkeit in new music.

ok, hope also to enjoy reading your ideas and vitriol regarding anything to do with radio 3. We'll see if I can contribute anything as well...

greetings,

alistair

For those trapped on islands off the continent, of varying size:

belanglosigkeit (which should be capitalized if we weren't so progressive) = pointlessness

Phil rarely makes lentil soup nowadays, but now he feels inspired.

Good to have you here dotcommunist,

and now that it has been translated, I think I agree with you about 'belanglosigkeit'
and detect it in many of my own posts.

Anyway Willkommen!

i put in the belanglosigkeit word because it seems to be so rife in new music and since i've been here for so long, i observe a loss of grip in the language of my own self. thanks for corrections Chafie.

the best word translator i found till now was the TU Chemnitz site, here a prime example:

http://dict.tu-chemnitz.de/dings.cgi?lang=en&service=deen&opterrors=0&optpro=0&query=
belanglosigkeit&iservice=&dlink=self&comment=

None of that was a 'correction', just a clarification.

For German-English translation, I use www.dict.leo.org

Welcome, you pinko speckle

i googled you, alistair.
google me, nothing.
it is highly likely you'll be on the slightly more, erm, highbrow areas of the sight where i don't venture/aren't welcome, so i'll say 'goodbye' now as well.

not so highbrow that you don't glue your hand to your forehead, though...

Ideazz?
I have plenty ideas, but they're in boxes now because we are moving.

The minute they pop out of the boxes and back into my head, you may watch this Welcome thread closely. Or should I start an "Unwelcome" thread?

i forgot you said you're all moving house. sorry i can't be there to help lift boxes.

i presume you could put forward  'Unwelcome Thread' in the Suggestions Category... but by the looks of things, most people on here were made fairly unwelcome already by the forerunner to this website.

good luck with the move, hope all goes smoothly

No problem, pointillist manifestarian. I do recall visiting you in the clinic around 1997 after you tried to move your stove and threw out a vertebral disc. No photos from that time, unfortunately.
