There's also conspicuously little on Ernst von Siemens, ie : how did he come to his fortune during
1942/3 Huh

i don't know if it has been translated yet, but  there's a section on this in
Aesthetik des Widerstands, by Peter Weiss, which translates as
The Aesthetics of Resistance. the section in question is where he lists all the 'suddenly rich' firms and banks' of the 2nd WW. recognise any?

Deutscher Bank
Dresdner Bank
Theissen Krupp
IG Farben (colours)

...still a few guarded areas in wiki, despite all the free info

I have often suspected, when visiting certain areas of Wikipaedia, that I recognise signs of Ian having been there before me. Tell-tale footprints in the dust, the sound of a door closing quietly on an outer corridor, the occasional discarded cigarette butt (fewer these days), the lingering aromoma of Adorno left on the recently disturbed air. Can it indeed be he who has passed this way? Wink

I wonder tacitly if Ian has contributed anything to this page:

My objections, though, are entirely due to the fact that Diet Coke tastes like watered down battery acid.

Er, aaron, how do you know what watered down battery acid tastes like?

Perhaps AC attended one of those medical schools before turning to music, where the professor introduces the students to the business end of medicine by first dipping a finger in something nasty, then (apparently) licking it. The point being that a doctor should
  • not be afraid to get their hands dirty
  • should be sufficiently observant to note that the finger that was dipped, and the one that was licked were not the same

Or perhaps he was also a fan of Bloom County, the comic strip by Berke Breathed

He was a bad, bad child.

Weird, though; I wouldn't have guessed that battery acid was carbonated.

That having been said, I do actually prefer European (well, French at least) Diet Coke to the American kind; recently here they have more closely approximated French Diet Coke with a new thing called "coke zero," which uses a different set of presumably differently carcinogenic artificial sweeteners.  There's also "Diet Coke Plus," with added nutrients, but that's just silly.

Indeed it is.

The proliferation of coke products, and in particular the 'added nutrients' variety, reminds me of a recent trip to the grocery store, where I counted no fewer than 37 different varieties of orange juice.  This has clearly gotten out of hand.

I know, I've been seeing things recently too, aaron. How many actually were there, three?

No no, literally 37 varieties, not counting different sizes of the same product.

Minute Made alone has 12 options for orange juice:  http://www.minutemaid.com/productsMain.jsp?group=OrangeJuice_and_Blends
Tropicana has 10:  http://www.tropicana.com/TRP_ProductInformation/Category.cfm?CategoryID=2

And these don't count the blends of orange juice + some other juice.  It really is amusingly ridiculous.

I recommend you give the battery acid a rest, Aaron.
