hullo shug,
of course the year 1688 was a very interesting year indeed, because, as we all know and fully appreciate, it was in this very year that alexander pope , emanuel swedenborg and the very famous Nadir Shah of Persia (who incidently died in 1747) were born but , alas , sadly the year that Philippe Quinault, French dramatist (born 1635) died (on November 26 to be precise). and in fact had you enrolled on to the radio 3 boards just 2 days ago , it would have been to have celebrated 400 hundred years of death , to the day of a certain James Butler, 1st Duke of Ormonde, royalist and Irish statesman (born 1610) (this being on July 21st). this of course i knew without any recourse whatsoever to wikipedia.
so , welcome to the boards, and if you like , please tell us a little about yourself,
DC
On the other hand, it might be possible to speculate that the choice of the Scots diminutive 'Shug' (= Hugh), plus the choice of the year 1688 might suggest a slightly
Orange 'hue'.
