I lurked occasionally over at the old MB but never posted.  I was quite astounded at the level of discussion, and I'm utterly tired of the very low level of discussion on these sorts of sites in the US, so ... I'm migrating.

I'm a 30-yr old American composer living in Chicago.  I teach (for the time being) at Northwestern Univ.

Hi, I, too, lurked at the old MB (though I posted a few times). I've been out of circulation since the holidays caring for elderly parents and figuring out the labyrinthine Great American healthcare system-complete with a crash course in the difference between medicare and medicaid, powers-of-attorney, and how to protect my parents' assets. I've been away from the R3 messageboards for awhile and have found that the end appears to be nigh. This seems to be the place to be , though I'll continue to check the old board. I've enjoyed listening to R3 online and reading posts occasionally for the past year. I live in southern New England but lived in England 30 years ago where I listened to R3 and 4 frequently. I am neither a composer nor a musician, but have listened to classical music since early childhood.

I think there's certainly an opportunity here for this site to spread its wings beyond the sceptre'd isle. I always felt a little bit of an outsider back on the Radio 3 site seeing as I never listen to Radio 3 what with the reception here in Köln being a bit poor. WDR3, yes, from time to time. Although actually even the reception I get of that where I live (in the middle of the city!) is pretty pathetic.

Ahem. Enough whingeing.

Welcome!

Ho Aaron.  I see that you've had some European performances.  Are there any more planned for the near future?
Cheers and welcome.

And what about Stuart MacRae and 'harmonyharmony'? There are quite a few part-time composers, too, at least one of whom (to my certain knowledge) has had public performances.

James Weeks, who's an occasional poster, is also a composer.  (And Ian Pace, who's a regular poster is an occasional composer.)  And, looking at the long list of member names who haven't yet posted anything here, there are quite a few composers lurking in the wings.

Interesting. Hope to read more from "our" composers in the new music section. Smiley

Neither.  The issue is a non-starter.
