I've just come back here after I had joined some months ago.

The reason? The original BBC Radio 3 message boards are administered by crazy people.

Twice in the last couple of months I've re-joined that message board - gone through days of pre-mod - then had about 3 weeks of successful discussions, only to find that I am suddenly and for no reason barred from making posts. I can still log on. On the first occasion I had an email saying they thought I was logging on as someone else, but they never reply to any follow up emails. The second time absolutely nothing at all.

I've come to the conclusion that the board admins and the BBC are totally crazy, and I'm pleased to be rid of them. The BBC and their boards are totally disfunctional and not fit for purpose, and we, the licence fee payers, are all being ripped off.

You may have known me recently on those BBC boards as New_Mark_One  - or Mark_One.

I dare say that Bryn and JS are going to make comments now if they read this!!

Cheers - Barebodkin

And John W and Michael are models of sanity.  Undecided

On the first occasion I had an email saying they thought I was logging on as someone else.

I thought that that practice was fairly common over there.

That was our experience too Mr. Bodkin. They groundlessly and without forewarning accused us of plagiarism, and caused a lot of anxiety before they grudgingly (but not publicly) retracted the accusation. They gave written undertakings to restore messages which had been hidden, but never did so. Their "listen-again" engineers are self-evidently incompetent. Their television programmes are unwatchable because of the incessant off-the-beat side-drums which they now seem to regard as an indispensible accompaniment to everything without exception. And finally, most of the message-board members are disagreeable, especially when they discuss the admirable Mr. Lebrecht.

Personally I'd be insulted if anyone accused me of being a model of sanity.

Odds boddikins! Welcome back.

As for being a model for sanity, I think I am one.

Welcome back, Barebodkin.

"....For who would bear the whips and scorns of
The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
 With a bare bodkin?....."   Grin

Just en passant, lest we forget:

Strange, isn't it, that one should get so hot under the collar about people on the other board being disagreeable, when the most unanimous opprobium cast by members there in general was upon his very self following his disgraceful comments regarding another member's misfortune, for the which, incidentally, he has yet to apologise.

Isn't also a little disingenuous to be so uppity regarding comments made by others concerning a critic who counts for little on even a national stage, while at the same time pulling no punches whatsoever in being disagreeable over and over again about an undeniably major world-class composer? Sauce for goose and gander, it would seem, Mr Grew.

 Kiss Smiley Wink

Thank you one and all for your kind welcome. I will try and tread the straight and narrow and contribute to the discussions. This seems to be a much more interesting MB and I see lots of people here I already know.

Just en passant . . .: disgraceful comments . . . for the which . . . he has yet to apologise.

Ha! This would look better in the "Religion is Evil" thread as an example of a certain sort of would-be domineering spirit. "Retract! Retract!" goes Dough (as we imagine him in the day of the Inquisition), "Or I'll pull out another fingernail!" Not likely in this century old Dough! Incidentally we prefer trees however wild to an expanse of ugly stones. (Imperturbably removing the pawn.)

Ah, but Mr Grew, were you to but look upon my provincial(!) photographs, you might become aware of my love for trees. The design and materials of the essay depicted were predicated by the Madam, who required a low-to-no maintenance garden, in the hope that her husband might be able to keep it more tidily than he has so far managed. I have made no comment regarding what my preferences might have been had I been faced with the same situation. It is necessary to understand the particular conditions which govern a creation in order to pass a valid judgement as to its suitability.

As for the pulling of fingernails: I'd like to suggest that it's just another inaccuracy of judgement founded upon conjecture rather than concrete detail. I have, moreover, no intention of forcing you to retract: such an action would negate its validity. I leave others to draw their own conclusions from the fact that your inquisitional image of me is pure fantasy, whereas your discourtesy to another member and your refusal to apologise or retract thereafter are not only fact, but a situation you appear to revel in.
