I am personally acquainted with performers who have themselves been the victims of actual terrorist attacks during the performances they were involved in.  One is so badly affected that he can't perform any longer.   I find these "funny ha-ha" remarks of Mr Corkin's in extraordinarily poor taste, and I would ask the Moderation Team to consider deleting them if the member himself doesn't do so within 24 hours.

Mr Corkin runs a forum of his own.  Let him take his offensive bilge there.  It's not wanted here.  There is a law in the UK about incitement to acts of terrorist violence, and I believe his remarks here have breached that law.

Self-righteousness is the queen of crimes, and this place is full of it. You think by saying these things you're clever?  It is people like you who offend me the most.

The proms have become a pathetic mockery. One huge scale divertimento for the superficial classes. This is a fact. Deal with it. Tell me one person here who hasn't thought at least once about blowing the whole place up on the last night?? It's the only sensible thought to have, to think otherwise smacks of ignorance and stupidity.  Angry

There's one person here, for a start, Rod: I'm usually counted as sensible, and not habitually associated with ignorance or stupidity, and certainly not with violence or destructiveness.

The Last Night doesn't appeal to me in the least, but do you know what? I don't watch it, I don't listen to it, and that's enough for me.

If you need to escape from your own site because you need a change of scene, that's one thing, but if you're not willing to abide by the rules* and the tenor of this board, then it's obviously not the place you should be visiting in its stead. Not when you're in this sort of state, at least.

I'm not escaping from my own site, I'm a member of many CM forums and have been from over 10 years. I just do the rounds every now and then, so to speak, to see what's going on. My own forum is far livelier than this place at the moment, believe me. You should be glad I'm here!

Concerning the Last Night, whether you watch it or not it gives the whole world of classical music a bad name. People rightly laugh at the sight of the pathetic souls bobbing up and down to the pathetic music, that's before we even get to the flag waving. It's bad propaganda, it gives classical music and the people who enjoy it a bad name. Some things in life are so bad that you just can't turn a blind eye to it, but it seems this does not apply to you.

I calmly await my expulsion...  Cool

If posting the kind of things you've been doing is your idea of "livening things up" I for one can do without it. Just for the record: I hope nobody got the idea that I was endorsing Rod's nonsense about grenade attacks in any way when I said the Albert Hall should be replaced by a proper concert hall. As for the Last Night of the Proms, I do find it fairly objectionable and if I were asked I should probably say I'd prefer it didn't happen, but frankly there are so many so much worse things going on in the world (often indeed involving lethal weapons) that I hardly think it's worth making a fuss about.

I'm somewhat surprised that, in all this stuff about bombing the Royal Albert Hall and razing it to the ground, no mention has yet been made of the remarks of a certain German conductor more than half a century ago as recalled in an interview with the English cellist Keith Harvey:

Another memorable occasion was a performance of the solo part of Don Quixote with the conductor Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt. During the rehearsal at the Albert Hall, Schmidt-Isserstedt was troubled by the acoustics: "It's not many years since I was flying over London as a member of the Luftwaffe," he said. "I had this building within my sights and I didn't fire. Now I wish I had.

Just trying to inject abit of what I suspect is much-needed levity in a thread that has become pretty much out of order in certain of its content...

Self-righteousness is the queen of crimes,

Certainly is - and you are the principal criminal.

You think by saying these things you're clever?  It is people like you who offend me the most.

If you think I lose sleep over that, Corkin, you're very wrong.

Why don't you take your infantile views to places where you tell us you're better appreciated?  As you can see,  no-one finds your threats of violence very "funny" here.

Only self centered persons like yourself would actually think people here are stupid enough to take what I was saying seriously. Have more faith in your members, I'm sure they're not all looking for grenade launchers on Ebay because of what I've written here.

But the anecdote regarding the Luftwaffe pilot turned conductor is comparable with my own position, no better no worse. The point is valid in both cases. The venue stinks, the management stinks. End of story.

If the best you can do is ad hominem attacks, Rod, you've simply proved yet again that you don't belong on these boards.

Sadly I've never seen a message from you yet which wasn't couched in terms of personal attacks and insults - of those you are writing to, or those you are writing about. Neither of these have any place here.

The only personal attack from me was with regard to the Director of the proms, and I didn't even mention him by name. Everything else I have said was in response to the personal attacks I have received here. How long do you want to keep this up for Reiner?

Of course what you say is not taken seriously, but I seriously consider that your comments have no place here. I have faith in members here, and the complaint button, and the team of moderators. I look forward to your expulsion.

So why make a fuss about me making a fuss about it??

Read your own messages above - you've called me "stupid" and "self-centred".  Or

I've made an official complaint about you, and I hope that you will be banned as a result.  Personally, Rod - I'd sue the Charm School if I were you.

I have banned myself already! This is why R3oK is a dead forum.

No, it is not "valid in both cases", nor is the end of any story. Schmidt-Isserstedt was born in 1900 and was by no means the "Luftwaffe pilot turned conductor" as which you describe him, having already had a distinguished conducting career for quite some years before he became a Luftwaffe pilot. His remarks about the Royal Albert Hall, as quoted in the Keith Harvey interview and elsewhere, were concerned purely with his perfectly understandable reservations about the venue's acoustic (which have been improved since he made them but which admittedly remain far from ideal); he made no mention of its management which, in any case, is not responsible for the artist or repertoire choices or the making of other decisions in respect of the Henry Wood Promenade Concert series, since that responsibility rests with BBC, so as far as your jibes at management are concerned, one may presume that you should address those to BBC rather than to the management of the venue itself.

On the basis of all of this, it may reasonably be argued that the gratuitous offensiveness of your statement is of less significance than its litany of inaccuracies.

On the basis in his own self-exile before action could be taken from here, it should be noted that Rod Corkin has been banned from the site.
