Regarding Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt, what I would like to know is how (and indeed why) he managed to take time off from his busy schedule as GMD of the Hamburg State Opera (a post which he held from 1935 to 1943, before moving to the Berlin State Opera) in order to undertake bombing raids of London, a dangerous, seriously unpleasant and not very well-paid job I would imagine.

End of story.

Sadly, Rod, I think that about sums it up: on the strength of private messages received and on the evidence of this thread, your presence here is felt to be disruptive. You've made it plain that you don't appreciate our site, and members are suggesting that the feeling's mutual: as you've also told us, there are many other sites besides your own that you visit, so one fewer on your list is neither here nor there.

I'm sorry that you feel the need to push things to the point where we must bid you farewell, but you appear to have jumped the gun and banned yourself.

Best wishes,

The Moderation Team

I have banned myself already! This is why R3oK is a dead forum.
The sheer conceited arrogance of the above statement is as breathtaking as its inaccuracy. Furthermore, you cannot "ban" yourself from this or any other forum; only moderators / administrators can ban you, whereas all that you personally can do is resign from a forum of which you no longer wish to remain a member. It's therefore up to you; you can either resign before you're banned or fail to resign and be banned and I rather doubt that, on the basis of what you have written here so far and the reactions thereto, most members here will care which, as long as at least one or the other happens sooner rather than later.

{Edit}
More haste, less speed, evidently, seeing as the deed is now mercifully done. There's one in every village, of course - and usually far more than one in every cybervillage...

What! Does that mean somebody tried to usurp my position?

No, I'm not a complete idiot. I'm only a halfwit. In fact I'm actually a catfish.

I remember on TOP about Christmas 2006 there was a thread on "What music would you like to see disappear".  Someone called Rod suggested "Mozart's stupid operas."  I was gobsmacked, not so much by the idea (there might be an argument that Mozart's operas are over-exposed and over-rated, not that I would agree,) as by the crudity and unexplained virulence of the phrasing.

I think I now know who was responsible.
