We have another new member overnight. With a name such as ReithianValues, it is no doubt fair to expect a certain degree of criticism regarding the present state of Radio3....

Welcome, RV: perhaps you'd care to introduce yourself and give us an idea of your interests (although one may be obvious already). Plenty of others here have had much to say on the subject, although you'll find that there's a very wide range of subjects dealt with here, from very serious to rather ridiculous. Hope you'll find plenty to enjoy.

Welcome!  I trust you will be suitably formally attired whilst sitting behind the computer?  It does make a difference, you know! Smiley

Hello RV,

Plenty of diverse frivolity here, but serious amount of of unity concerning how Radio 3 should be.....

A most warm welcome, RV.    Smiley       Made me smile to see Sylvia Peters (?) above; definitely in line with your fine traditions; elocution et al.

Ahh, would that be escaping from a tube? Wink In which case I'm sure Lord Reith would very much agree, particularly bearing in mind the parlous state of so many of the Beeb's tube offerings nowadays.

Oh dear, contrary to my considered opinion, a discourse of dumbing down seems to be issuing from my finger tips! Guess that'd be a Reithian/Freudian slip?!

Love the picture of MARY MALCOLM not Sylvia Peters. I even remember 'Animal, Vegetable or Mineral', Mortimer Wheeler inspired me to become an archaeologist. Reithian values are what we need, G-d knows what he would have thought of Graham Norton. Roll Eyes

Ah, F-L, I had a chance meeting with Sir Mortimer Wheeler when I joined him in a fairly lengthy advance booking queue for Alan Bennett's "Forty Years On", circa 1968.    A most convivial conversation, too, as he was also a keen theatregoer.

Now I know why Freud is in your nickname and your profile picture! Smiley

Not so far off, Freud often referred to Psychotherapy as the 'archaeology of the unconscious'. Layer upon layer of meaning concealing what was below.

Yes, and Freud had a wonderful collection of antiquities, especially Egyptian antiquities.
