Hi, jellybaby
Welcome. I can't imagine that we have much in common in our musical tastes, but it seems here people can respect all sorts of interests and passions. I am very pleased to find that I am in some sort of dialogue (usually over the more trivial matters,) with people I would never talk to in social contexts.
All the best.

Bobby Z....it was that impudent insensitive slightly manically inclined Roooosta that said 'stuffy' in the heat of the moment but then he finds almost anywhere stuffy....do not be amazed by this we all know the jazzboard itself is a bear garden, most of the stuffy ones had dropped out before my time and I am just left with the generally zany types....I consider myself a zany type....Stuffy also means that I feel slightly at a vdisadvantage, because some of you are experts and serious WHEREAS....i am not at all serious....I just like music ....my creativity goes elsewhere (if I can get off this board)....I am eclectic in many areas (but definitely not a collector or expert)....very average education....

JB / Roosta
No problem, it's funny how we can feel at home in some online environments and not others. As is probably clear, I often read the jass bored for instance but would hesitate to post there since my jazz knowledge doesn't compare with the regulars and posts saying "I love Dolphy" or "I love Monk" don't really have that much value. I might be tempted to jump on an anti-Massarik train though !
Hope you realise the lack of stuffiness here now though, a feature of the place is how seriousness and silliness reside in the same people in equal measure.

JB, BZ - yes, serious and silly coexist here, very happily for the most part, as well as musical and utterly non-musical topics. But what really distinguishes this place I think is (for the vast, vast majority of the time) respect for the opinions of others, even when those opinions aren't couched in very 'knowledgeable' terms, and recognising the difference between opinion and fact. I like Eric Dolphy, too. That's a fact. But I'd get short shrift here trying to claim that it is a fact that he was the greatest jazz artist of all time (or that Handel was 'better' than Bach ).

YES, Don B ,Martle....I'm definitely a low grade polymath....informed about all sorts, but happy to keep things simple. Don obviously I don't know your tastes....bet we co-inside somewhere. I am happy just to interact with folk, as I do not meet many people these days. I like to talk about life and seeing that music or Radio 4 is on almost constantly in my home ,sometimes radio, tape CD, 2 radio stations on at the same time, music merges with my life. Due to certain processes in things I make, I'm regularly waiting for things to dry....I'm not particularly very well so I take plenty of breaks for that reason too....I'm an unreconstructed nicotine addict....especially when writing....in fact almost anytime....I live in a beautiful part of the world, so I'm lucky that way too....I allied myself to the Jazz board as that seemed to be where all the mavericks hung out....their output seemed to make the most sense and supply the most entertainment, and leave the way open for creative posting....manys the time I have almost spat tea onto the laptop thro' something someone has written....anyway....

JellyB, you seem like a good'un to me. Just post away. There aren't (yet) so many dogs of war here as there are over at TOP (R3). King K looks in here sometimes: his kingdom doth stretch far unto these shores and verily his subjects bestow on him many adulation-type thingies.

Into all kinds, JB. Composer, performer, teacher and I hope an open musical mind. I don't mind outdoor spaces as such, but have a real problem with bridges and large interior spaces like churches.

I am envious of you Martle....to be able to play the piano or sax or lastly guitar would be a tremendous boon....because of the particular Dyslexia that I have....my left arm and hand dangle by my side waiting to hold /grip something so my right side can get creative....rules out reading music too....quite good on trumpet, but didn't have the dedication or outlet to get good chops....shame really because I am full of rhythm, melody, space and harmonies that rattle around my brain which only the trees and the hills hear....annoying too, because I know several high quality musicans who are tech' OK, some exceptional....but with less creativity or insight .... have you ever listened to any Mike Westbrook....

You are in America, so you may not understand what i am talking about?? Nancy is a TV programme where the aim is to cast Nancy for a West End production of Oliver. from the talented public rather than professionals....in the series, which has generally attracted some very good voices and plausible amateurs, in the end sequence the least favourite gets voted off (down to3 now) and as she leaves she gets to sing As Long As He Needs Me and every woman; given the emotion of the situation, has really belted it out...magic....
Re rugby songs I suppose I did sing them once, but not for a very longtime....
