Time to welcome JimD, a name from TOP (=The Other Place) who has  joined at least partly on my invitation, since his query about a DVD of Britten's Curlew River reminded me that one of the few opera videos which didn't get put at the back of my storage unit after the move was the 1986 Nexus Opera production, broadcast from Wells Cathedral during the Bath Festival, leading to my hauling out of the box and transferring it to DVD this afternoon. Mono only, but not in bad nick at all for a 22-year-old VHS tape. Apart from the eschewing of half-masks, it's a pretty faithful rendition of the original concept, unlike the Birmingham Opera Co.'s version seen at the 2004 Proms (which was modernised, but worked a treat, and is still lurking at the back of said stores). I guess we may be in a PM situation here for some members.... Wink

So welcome, Jim: I'm just about to contact you now.

And I hope also that you like the "10 latest posts" feature at the bottom of the home page -- that's always a big draw.

Welcome to the boards!

Welcome, JimD!   Smiley          Morts reference to 'liking the territory over here', set a tune spinning:

               "He's from Big D, my, oh, my: Big D a - double ll , Big D a -double ll, Big D a double ll a s!"

A great duet for Carol Burnett & Julie Andrews at Carnegie Hall in the 60s.

Thank you folks: this board does appear particularly friendly and (relatively) free of spats.
As you will gather, I have spent a bit of time lurking.

Oops! I've already got my coat on. Thank you all for a wonderful time...

No, I'm not a complete idiot. I'm only a halfwit. In fact I'm actually a catfish.

Hello JimD.

Whatever did you see when you lurked?  We do have spats, but conducted with Byzantine diplomacy.

Hope to see you around.
