It is still a mystery as to why this MB was targeted.

Not really Anty. You remember the large numbers of "guests" that you commented on? Most of those are spammers scanning for targets, though we do get scanned by search engines as well. It's nothing personal, they haven't got it in for Radio 3 listeners, everyone is fair game. This will all be done automatically using botnets, there aren't real people sitting there registering themselves as fuwibowpcito or nkoseivmwuaix Cheesy

May I just add my gratitude to all the 'behind the scenes' work the moderators have done to not only fight off the spammers, but to ensure that 'business as normal' has continued here.

Seconded

I had to google botnet and find "A botnet's originator (aka "bot herder") can control the group remotely,  and usually for nefarious purposes."

Bot herder?  Why has Johannes the goat herder called the latest additions Bot and Ebot?  Why has he bought a remote control? I fear nefarious practices in the paddock.  I must away to investigate 'ere the Internet is spammed by Anglo-Nubians!  Cheesy

Bot herder?

They attract a lot of bot-flies - allegedly.

The Man from UNCLE, for those too young to get the cultural reference.  Is Ron or Ollie Ilya?  (I always fancied the other one.)

I rather think you mean Napoleon Solo, DB.

Ron, of course, is Alexander Waverly.

May I on the other hand just emphasise that thanks in the matter of spam-deflection should really go in the direction of my two colleagues (to whom I dips me lid)? I was gallivanting around Paris at the time.

Credit where it's due and all that.
