What a surprise to go to the R3 boards for the first time in 3 months and find that everything has changed and that many folks had moved to this site. It's structure is very familiar because I have been a long time member of Good Music Guide.

I moved from Utah in the US to Jakarta just over 2 months ago and will be here for 16 months more. My only connection to new classical music - about the only kind I listen to - is via the internet and so I find R3 to be a great comfort for me - at least most of the time. I look forward to reading and at times participating in discussions.

If you happen to be coming to Jakarta while I am here, let me know. I will be happy to show you some of the sights.

UB, welcome UB. I only joined the old board a few months ago, but now it is impossible to post anything there, unless it is connected with a few shows.
Jakarta sounds like an exciting and exotic place to be.

I hope you will like it here.

Hope the troubles in Jakarta are all sorted now.  Was a bit scary there a couple of years ago, according to a friend.  What do you do out there?

Glad to have you on board - this is a great place

Another welcome!

I hope the changes to R3 won't disturb your listening too much...

Welcome on board to another of this board's far-flung members! Smiley

Far enough flung to make you seem positively local!

Thanks for the Hellos -

My wife and I are here in Indonesia on a welfare mission for our church. The floods continue - the only difference is that they are not in Jakarta so they do not make the world headlines. The biggest danger right now is from mud slides - they take our whole villages.

Hi David - did you make it to any of the Gubaidulina weekend? We were in the middle of moving here so I did not get to even listen. I thought this weeks H&N was quite good - especially the Mawhinney and Parkin pieces.

They do have a classical orchestra here in Jakarta. I did not get to go to the last concert but from the list of works they were supposed to play - an interesting mix of contemporary and standard works - must have been three hours long.

And a late greeting from me, I joined the old boards only about 3 weeks before they changed but am really enjoying the time I spend here, very friendly and lots of different musical viewpoints here! Everyone is passionate and enthusiastic too which is wonderful.

This is going to sound like a selfish request, but have you got any pictures of the landscape?

Any particular part of the country - mountains, city, or what. I have some interesting ones of the floods. What do you want them for?

Hi UB,
Welcome from me as well.  My Dad has been to Indonesia on business a few times (although not recently) and said it was lovely.
This may seem like a strange request but have you found or seen any interesting shells while you are there?  (clue: look at my avatar - I am a conchologist)

UB,

I hope you haven't been badly affected by the earthquake earlier today.  Best wishes
