Have lurked a bit on the new boards but it all looks so complicated I am not sure if I can handle it at all.

Welcome Jean

Firstly, this is a very friendly community. Secondly, don't worry about smileys, avatars, pictures until and unless it interests / amuses you.

I suggest you go to an area that particularly interests you, be it opera, a specific programme, general classical or whatever. Have a read and post away. Or maybe look out for familiar names from the other board and see what they are discussing over here ?

Maybe check out the latest post notification towards the bottom of the main page to see what is currently active ( not always waffle ! ) The board has grown a bit like topsy and some interesting threads get a little lost occasionally but it gets much clearer with use.

Thanks for the welcome!  I think I thought I had posted already but then couldn't find where I had posted so thought I probably hadn't.

I did want to check what some 'familiar names' were saying but unless they've started a thread I can't, can I?  I realise this is to discourage cyberstalking but my intentions are innocent, honestly.

Yes, welcome Jean! It's a very nice balance of waffle and genuine discussion over here - much like the old boards used to be, but even more wide-ranging and VERY friendly. One reason it looks complicated is that our hosts, Michael and John, have taken an awful lot of trouble to organise it properly according to subject matter. It gets easier once you start reading around and making a few posts - and actually is very logical once you get used to it!

I go to unread posts since last visit or show new replies on your posts.
Sometimes I forget in which section some of the threads are, but on the whole I am used to this board.

I do what t-p does too.  It's very useful once you have got started.

But maybe a good starting point is to look at the bottom of the home page.  The last 5 replies are there.  If you spot a familiar name, you can always click on the thread title they have just posted on and you'll gradually get to grips with where they are posting.

Glad to have you on board JH

Hi Jean,

Try going to http://r3ok.myforum365.com/index.php?action=recent where you can see the last 100 posts appear, latest first, as a single thread.

You can also get there by clicking on the icon which appears to the left of the 5 recent posts in the Info Center (sic) at the bottom of the homepage.
