It seems like this year's Womad was a real mountain top experience.

Mariza was quite good although she definitely saved the best for last with 'Primavera'.

Tinariwen started slow I felt but then cranked it up a few notches to achieve excellence.

Voice of the night went to David D'Or.

Here's a good titbit for Andy fans. You know the now famous track by Jahle entitled 'Lullaby'. Well the leader of the Kronos quartet David Harrington in America read about it in Andy's regular feature for Songlines magazine. And when it came out on the Rough Guide to the Music of Iran he was totally blown away by it. So he arranged it for string quartet. This evening the two were played side by side and I must say that the KQ's version was astonishing.

The programme was rounded off with Baaba Maal and his second track 'Dakar' was I felt the best of the night. Incidentally Baaba has a new CD coming out in early 2008 featuring hip hop, r 'n' b, as well as traditional kora and balafon playing.

The playlist is at the following address:

Keep well folks and see you next week.

I too liked the Kronos' version whs. Can't say I was much taken with Mariza.

The prog is on listen again although there's no link on the playlist page.

Another vote from me for the Kronos interpretation, although I have my suspicions that AK himself wouldn't have much liked it.
