Charlie's 3 weeks on the Monday night slot have been touched with grace and charm. I really respect the hard work he puts in to keep in touch with his fans. In my experience that's not one of AK's strong points.

So we've had the lovely Lucy, the charming Charlie, and now the judicious (?) Joe Boyd with a Top 40 programme??? I await next week with interest!

Monday's programme brought home the advantage of giving everything a second
listen.

Once again there was much to admire about this week's programme. I
will just pick out a few of my favourite bits.

For sheer alround greatness the best has to be Bessie Smith and her
song 'Backwater Blues'.

That song by Justin Adams and Juldeh Camara pushed it close though
with 'Ngamen'.

I was very impressed with the Cambodian singer from Dengue Fever on
their song 'Sleepwalking through the Mekong'.

The second listening confirmed to me that Bob Dylan has come up with
another super song: 'Spirit on the Water'. I would describe it as a
modern classic worthy to stand along side his best songs.

The final song by Joe Zawinul entitled 'Erdapfee Blues' along with
Dylan was the best of the second half of the programme.

See you soon!
