It was wonderful to see footage of such as the Swan Silvertones, Staples Singers, Fred McDowell, John Hurt, Son House, Butterfield Blues Band, Howling Wolf, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee in pin sharp quality film and sound in the movie Festival shown on BBC4 last night, as well as several old timey bluegrass guys and the more familiar Dylan and Baez ( could have done without so much Peter Paul and Mary ) But incredibly frustrating to only see snippets of each of those mentioned. The chopped footage of Dylan was put together as a seperate Arena feature by the director, it would be wonderful to have a similar exercise for the bluesmen.

And did anybody see the clips on the earlier Arena from that bizarre Granada programme with Muddy Waters and Sister Rosetta Tharpe playing on Cholsey railway station in the rain ? Would love to see that entire show.
