To be honest, I think Mixing It was far more of a fit with the rest of the R3 schedules than AK is. But I'm not about to start campaigning for the axing of another programme after last week's carnage.

I doubt if there will be another major schedule upheaval for at least three years, the jazz progs and World Routes should be fine. R3 seem to have a lot invested in the World Music awards for instance ( I feel another topic coming on ) Nobody disputes that R3 should be predominantly a classical music station but if it had veered a little off course, the current correction seems a mite savage.

Personally, I feel the fly in the ointment of the general BBC radio mix is the  disappointingly unadventurous programming on 6 Music. Admittedly, this view is given from not having listened to much of it ( have dipped my toe into Freak Zone and recently listen to Bob Dylan's Theme Time Hour ) but whenever I channel hop it seems indistinguishable from commercial stations like Virgin and not far enough removed from R1.

I had the everyday experience of daytime BBC6Music when I worked at a garage with a shiny new DAB radio - you're right, Bobby, it was R1 minus the most commercial of the pop and minus the worst of the presenters. I have been told that it is much better in the evenings, but I've not yet found out for myself.

AK's programme is sometimes liberating, sometimes frustrating, but never boring. That's why it definitely doesn't belong on R2  Roll Eyes

Well, Andy Kershaw may well end up on Radio 2 if Roger Wright decides to start culling world music. I think it would be a travesty if the BBC let Andy Kershaw slip through their fingers.

that particular incarnation of a mekon is in a fix about changing anything for a while; wouldn't do at all to give the slightest hint of getting anything wrong, now would it?

I assume you're talking about that nice fellow Roger Wright?
