Bruckner's 9th was broadcast a couple of days ago on TtN played by the Venezuleian SO (I regret I cannot even have a stab at the conductor's name)
What an enjoyable performance and joy is the right word! No gloom, no fear, no looking into the abyss but rather a lively hymn of praise to the God so revered by Haydn. The music skipped along, no visions from Caspar David Friedrich just bright open meadows. Almost converted this atheist. A joy.
The playing of the orchestra put to shame that of two European bands I've heard this week. Do give it a try.
