Perhaps you two could take this to 'Personal Messages'?
You are both, of course entitled to your opinions. And stating "My opinion is......" can be cited as a fact. (e.g "It is a fact that my opinion is......").
But perhaps during your personal message discussion you could be clear when you are using the word 'fact' in this way - it may help resolve the discussion quickly.
Thank you
Tommo

Thanks Tommo, and sorry if it got heated I did start PM-ing Milly earlier, but then Richard replied on board so I decided it was possibly of interest to more than just the two of us. Also, I didn't want Milly to feel I was attacking her personally, and a private message might have come across that way. I don't want to argue any more with Milly. I wanted to say my bit about HIV, I've repeated it now just to show which was the important bit of my original message and which was the personal stuff ('opinion' as you say might be the word). I'm sure no one else is interested in our opinions, but the facts are important. I'm not going to post again on this subject so people can judge for themselves whether I've presented the facts about HIV fairly or not. Thanks to Richard for his support, and sorry if I disturbed anyone else. PS In message #1206 I meant 'grump' not 'grunt', of course!

I understood which bits were you and which bits were me! I hope I don't fan any flames by saying that it all sounds rather tangled! Who would have thought you could get into such a pickle just playing "Twister"!

t_i_n and Milly, You both find different things offensive and it's not worth arguing about on here. I'm seeing just as many heterophobic as homophobic suggestions here so I think Private messages is the best advice. I'm grumpy because my missus has gone out with a bunch of teachers and my drinking mate is out elsewhere, so I'm sitting here and listening to Paul Gambaccini on FNIMN R2 featuring Alfie Boe, now that's something to be grumpy about ! On the subject of forms, I have a beautiful spoof "EEC (as it then was) census form" which asks all the most politically incorrect questions like: Ethnicity: White / Asian* / Chocolatey / Ace of Spades *please give room, bed and shift numbers. Of course some people find that kind of thing funny.

I am always fallen from the end of everything, Kitty. I am grumpy. Mr TP is saying I told you so yesterday. You don't see trickery in other people. The other accompanist got out of the situation because he did not want to do it. His partner may be sick, but he doesnot have a life threatening illness. I really need some classes about assertiveness. How to be nice without being rude. I want to do thinngs for people, but there is a limit. And to think that it was my partner in trio that did it to me. And it is not the first time unfortunately. My friends tell me that you have to say no sometimes.
I think it is hopeless to learn anything in this life. If I would not miss two lessons I would not be so grumpy, but my committment to my students and their exams are more than to occasional accompanying for people I will never see again. I do it for charity because money are negligeable. But one should not be stupid in this life. It is a shame.

t-p, I know how you feel, not for myself, but my wife always has bad luck at choosing new friends, gets too close to them and then they do something very unfriendly to her. She has a few good close friends, but lost many more. We do have a lot of 'friends' and people we see occassionally but not a lot that are close, I suppose you cannot have too many close friends as you would not have enough time. John W

You are so right John W. The times of close friendships are probably over. Now people have more superficial relationships. I treat everybody like they are my best friends and I get disapointed often. People have their interest and they are for the most times fellow travelers. I can see it clearly now, but then I do the same mistakes again and again, over and over. I am not capable of learning. May be I am retarded or something. (This is too not politically correct, I am sorry).

For what it's worth, I think today's grumps (not in the least confined to this thread - see elsewhere! - is it in the stars today?) are pretty inconsequential, although understandable in all repsects too. I hope no-one falls out on this board over, at worst, misunderstandings. I'm going to post a TOTALLY BRILLIANT JOKE over on the Waffle thread in a mo; so get yourselves over there and enjoy.
