Suddenly Badger felt his waistcoat being pawed by an over-excited Stoat "'Ere" she squeaked "hh 'as a birthday and is feeling lonely, let's all us animals go over and surprise him with Tapas and Booze!"

"And how do you propose we get there?" asked Badger.

"On the tandem of course, or Kevin the Taxi"

"We don't have a tandem, it's an exercise bike, and Kevin's Taxi is an old Asda trolley powered by weasels, it just about makes it to the Old Oak Tree"

"Well" replied Stoat, ever resourceful "I'll make him some deep fried earthworms with a caperberry dressing, a dash of balsamic vinegar and garnished with finely chopped coriander and chilli, put it in a tupperware container and hitch-hike up North!"

"Stoat" sighed Badger "Do you really think you'll get a lift on the M1?"

Happy Birthday hh!

And now Word's just crashed in the middle of some reasonably complicated table crunching (which of course wasn't saved) and I'm listening to some REALLY depressing electroacoustic music.
Time to go and make some food.
Girlfriend is arriving tomorrow night. It will be great to see her but I hope she doesn't find humouring me through the last stages of the PhD too much of a trial.

We don't use word over in maths, but I think there's some general policy in our college that says that PhD theses won't be accepted if written up in word, as there have been cases where things have been lost.  It sounds like bullshit, now that I've said it, though. Hmm.  I hope you have many, many backups!

Anyone looking forward to seeing a rather bedraggled Bill Oddie and Kate Humble in what will be a most unseasonal Springwatch ? Although I gather it's a lot better in the west of the country ?

Bill Oddie's a bit bedraggled at the best of times - but I like Springwatch. I heard they had to go and film bits in advance because spring happened rather earlier than they expected.

Happy Birthday HH. I had forgotten its KateHumblewatch time-with Judge Deed annual prod to get a TV that I just about resist. I caught a jazz trio standing in the doorway of a pub in the rain, whiuch may mean I revert temporarily to standing outside Radio Rentals looking furtive when somethings' on.

Thank you all.
Anna's post was the tipping point for a big smile.
My thanks to Badger and Stoat. The earthworms are very tasty.

The music was Roland Kayn's Cybernetics III (from AGP38: European Electronic II).

Too bad! - in the sense that I've had that on LP since 1975 or so... no new discoveries for me tonight then. I'm surprised you find it depressing though, I've never thought of it like that. Actually I'm a great admirer of Kayn's electronic music.

It could just have been the mood I was in.
I had interleaved the whole LP between Bussotti (RARA Requiem, Frammento, Fragmentations and Le Bal Miro) and Partch (Daphne of the Dunes, Barstow and Castor and Pollux) and had been very impressed by most of the Bussotti and all of the Partch so it could have just been that I needed to give my ears a bit of a break (which have been a lot better even though I had some issues trying to pitch some very simple intervals earlier today).
I will listen again at a later date.

I have a difficult day tomorrow. I have to accompany students on violin (and two violas) doing their exams.
I start at 9.50 and go until 6 o'clock. I think examiner will have a break so I hope to have lunch.
Students are playing usual piece. The most interesting piece is Ravel Pavanne for a dead Princes (for viola), Kabalevsky concerto (II movement), some bits and pieces.
I have a big pile of scores, but I will end up sight reading again because I am too tired to practice.
Good night all. Wish me to survive tomorrow.
It is not all tragic. The violin teacher is very funny man. He has diverse interests. He even can make violins and he made one for his student. He also knows maths, has interest in composing. He is very very clever young man. He built a house for himself like Finish houses with isolation etc.
I like him very much. He is very artistic person.
He knows music very well (contemporary composers included) and he is interesting to talk to. He is usually there to tune violins. Most students tomorrow are his students.
I just have to play well enough not to make students play well.
I will have to go now, but I hope to come back tomorrow.

The weather is better everywhere tomorrow. You are all going to be in Happy room tomorrow.

I hope you have some moments of inspiration t-p. I do feel these exams should be made more fun and pro-active
and your friend seems to feel that way too, as I guess you do facing that pile of sight-reading.
