I'm going to sit him in the middle of us so that she can ruin it for him rather than me. (She talks all through everything.) She'll get some nasty looks, then!

She always does! Last time I took her to the Grand Theatre, the woman on the other side of her gave her a real telling-off. I just sat quietly trying to pretend she wasn't with me.

Ho! This "Grumpy" thread was started on 26th February. The "Happy" thread started on 22nd February. To date:- Happy thread = 1,983 messages. Grumpy " " = 2,529 messages.
Does this tell us anything? If so, what?

I have a horrible feeling that the piece I'm writing now isn't very good.

S'wave Either it tells us that we're collectively about a fifth more grumpy than happy, or that a fifth of us are.

Happiness is a terribly sordid affair, I'm sure we'll all agree with that. Better to be grumpy is what I say. Got some moussaka on a white t-shirt yesterday. Grrr. (I had gone out for the day in t-shirt and shorts; such a lovely day was it. It's pissing rain today though : ( )

My husband was the same, Milly.
Perhaps your mother is like she is because she's getting older, and as you say something will go wrong eventually, or has she always been like that? Come to think of it, nothing ever went seriously wrong with my father. He just died, when he was 94. They had trouble finding anything to put on the death certificate!
My mother has always been the same even as a young woman. I grew up with it I'm afraid. I was an only child and she tried to do it to me, taking me to hospital all the time when I was an infant (some sort of Munchausen Syndrome....by Proxy I think because it wasn't herself she was complaining about). Eventually the paediatrician got fed up and told her off, so she reverted to being obsessed with herself again. My father died of an aortal aneurism in 1988 - no symptoms, just bang, gone. The previous record on his doctor's file was "tonsillectomy 1947". I take after him thank goodness. Aneurism nearly got my Dad. Fortunately his GP picked it up during a (more or less) routine checkup. It's something that can be picked up with an ultrasound scan, which I think is relatively inexpensive, and remember reading that somebody recommended it for men over 40 every five years or so.

A friend of mine is a terrible hypochondriac and usually persuades his doctor to refer him for tests for this and that at fairly regular intervals. When I told him that my doctor is usually dismissive when I see him, he said that the secret is to say that you feel tired all the time. That makes the doctor sit up and take notice, apparently. Anyway, this time they found he had diabetes and now he has to take pills every day. But he was told that it was the sort of diabetes they wouldn't have bothered with a few years ago. Now, however, they have to meet productivity targets, or whatever they're called in the medical profession. So the more treatment they give, the more money they get. Turning to a differect type of sickness, I was affected by thunder and lightning last night. With one flash of lightning, my television went off for a few seconds before recovering. My computer, which was on at the time, was unaffected even though I don't have surge protection, but a radio-CD player which was on standby has died. I've tried changing the fuse but to no avail. RIP.

hh, It is better just do things and not put value on them. It is better to have a new piece written than ruin it with your own doubts. Y
You never know if you write a master piece or not. Think better that it is a good piece. It could come handy later even if it is not the perfect piece you wanted to write. I am sure it is a good piece and will be useful for your.

I have many doubts about myself and my abilities and I know that it is not good to doubt. There will be always other people to pull you down. One has responsibility for yourself to keep that self in good mood. I know because for the most part I did the oposite. And such an upsetting thoughts as the piece is not good should be correctly in a way that what was written is good. The next piece is always going to be better.

I think I must be lucky with my Opticians. On one annual visit, when I was quite prepared to buy new glasses (I'm very short-sighted), the optician advised me not to replace the ones I had as my eyesight hadn't changed much. Being so shortsighted, I've had free prescriptions for a while. However, ever since hitting 40, my eyes have started to become a little long-sighted (I know that's a simplification and it doesn't exactly reverse but that's what it appears to do) so my prescription last year wasn't quite high enough to be free but she waived the fee. Oh dear, that wasn't grumpy at all! Sorry!
