As predicted in the Garden Shed thread, it falls to me today to ferry Dode down to Newcastle airport to pick up his car. Apart from the fact that it's the day of the Great North Run, the Forth Road Bridge is being resurfaced at weekends, with concommittant delays of at least an hour and extra-heavy traffic on the roads to boot. My pleas to start early - maybe half five - fell on deaf ears, and we're still not away yet. None of the roads from Edinburgh to Newcastle are good anyway, so maybe we'll be faster going via the West Coast M74 and Carlisle to Newcastle, even though it's a far longer route. Grrrrrrr. A whole day wasted.

Grump, mutter, mumble. I have been trying for the best part of the morning to access Amazon, Selections and Hyperion, all of which are bookmarked, but I can`t seem to get past their home page e.g.  I can`t go into CDs, books etc. I just get a blank screen, yet I can access the BBC R3 board. The same thing happened when I tried to access the e card company that I use. A big fat white nothing.  Angry Huh Huh Angry  Anyone have any bright ideas ?

Grump! Disc 4 of my Stravinsky box (the only one I had listened to thus far!) has vanished! And since it's just in a flimsy little sleeve, I doubt I'll find it again. Agon, Apollo, and Jeu de Cartes are already in the process of being replaced. Grr, though!

But yesterday I listened to Oedipus Rex & Threni. May be the only pieces I'll listen to for the rest of the week.

Mort,

I just tried Hyperion and it worked for me. Sometimes the vagaries of the web mean that if you try again 10 mins later all the previously shut doors open effortlessly. Not much help I know. Did you try refresh?

I sometimes find that I have to shut down my computer and restart it. I have no idea why this happens, but there are some websites that just seem to crash my connection and it doesn't resolve until I've restarted.

I've got so many memories of being distinctly fed-up on Sunday afternoons.
And I'm fed up today. The events of Friday night have revived some feelings that should have remained buried.
Bah.

This often works for me too, though I've no idea why. It works with Freeview boxes as well, I've discovered.

I wondered whether to lose my temper when I read a review by John Carey of the new Nureyev biography in today's Sunday Times online. It said ballet is "mindless compared with the other arts, as mindless as, say, football". Then I decided to pity his ignorance instead.

Maybe clearing your cache would speed things up?
I dunno otherwise. Sorry.

I've just found out that while I was stumbling around in the dark earlier on (I'd stupidly drawn the curtains before switching the light on, before anyone asks) I managed to kick a pint of water over on to a pile of papers. Fortunately they were all photocopies of pieces, not originals (though there were a few pages of original parts, but I'm not sure about that piece anyway and since the score exists and it's not very long..) so I decided to chuck the lot (recycled of course) and save on the bulk of paper I'll be taking with me.
