Ho Anna - thanks for that! But I'm only cool because I've been outside in a bitter weather chopping up perspex with a hacksaw (don't ask why, it's a long story...!)

It's been snowing here I was supposed to be going to the pub with my brother but he suggested postponing until Tuesday, which suited me as I've been feeling pretty lousy today. Just been catching up on QI instead.

Snow is even worse now, we've got c4-5cm - so far. What??!!In Brum??!! Oh well, you'll have to build a grumpy little snowman and post us a pic of it!

I can well believe the snow in Brum: twice when I've been working there at Christmas or soon after we've had a 10 mile limit placed on our travelling, and both times there's been very bad snow affecting public and private transport. If you do much driving up and down the M6 at night, you'll know that the elevated section there is nearly always the first place to get seriously frosty, too.

I usually find it smells unbearably. Even fallen branches are better. And old tires are to be avoided at all costs.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Last week I booked a ticket for tomorrow's Philharmonia concert; at the time, all I could get in my price range was an £18 seat in row E of the balcony. Today I checked the site and found they had a couple of returns in row B of the stalls, for £23... It being past the formal deadline for returning tickets formally, I phoned and asked if I could upgrade and the box office assistant practically laughed me off the phone Apparently I'd find that it was standard procedure "everywhere" for this not to be allowed... erm, the Barbican have let me do it in the past, and Sadler's Wells. Anyway, as there's a piano concerto in the first half, and the second half's soprano soloist is the main reason I'm going to the bloody thing in the first place, I went online and bought the second-row seat anyway. Anybody fancy a balcony seat for the RFH tomorrow? Philharmonia Orchestra and Chorus; Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos is conducting; first half is Thibaudet playing the Khatchaturian Piano Concerto; second half is Carmina Burana with Claire Rutter, David Kuebler and William Dazeley. Any reasonable offer considered.

Hurrah, I am no longer grumpily ranting. A R3OK member has just offered to take my aforementioned spare ticket off my hands Which is A Good Thing, not only due to my not ending up out of pocket, but due to the potential for a nice drink with a fellow member.

Oh! I've just made a discovery, which rather illuminates why my room has been so bloody cold recently. The radiator was off!
So no more chilly morns or damp towellings for me!

Sorry inky but that did make me chuckle! I've done that too - wonder for days why a room's so cold then notice the radiator thermostat's on 0. Though more recently the &$%"!@£* boiler's not been coming on despite being set to be on. Twice the service engineers have been to twiddle with it but it's still playing up. We have a service contract with them so at least it's not costing us anything but it's not very old so shouldn't keep going wrong.

Hmmm. Grrrr. If I was in charge of designing the universe I wouldn't have done it like this. Etc.
Because it is absolutely pouring down with rain outside I have just responded sympathetically to Next Door Cat's pitiful mewings outside the front door and let it in to take shelter. The little bastard immediately dropped a not yet dead mouse at my feet in supplication. It then immediately asked to be let out again. Oh God, I expect the horrible beast is now hunting for another one for me.
I took the coward's way out with the mouse and deposited in a sheltered spot in the back garden. I suppose I should have finished it off to stop it suffering for longer than it need.

That's a sign you're being honoured, GG: you're being adopted as part of her family, and she feels obliged to provide for you.
