Andy, I didn`t have any problems with OE until now. I guess I`m just mightily chuffed off that I seem to have a problem forwarding mail from the Virgin account and that never happened with OE, it was quite straightforward. Can you tell me something about Thunderbird?

I'm trying to work out my lovely six-part counterpoint and there's this creaking door...
Oh; lovely; did you get it finished! What was the quality of the creak of the door? Were its creakings spaced at regular or irregular intervals?

Mort, Thunderbird is the Mozilla email programme (the email equivalent of Firefox) - see here. I've been using it for 2.5 years now to read and write all my Yahoo and, more recently, Googlemail mail and have never had any problems. If you have a Googlemail account you can read and write emails using Thunderbird, it requires a bit of setting up but there are help pages on the Googlemail website - but you should also be able to access emails from your ISP. Thunderbird will automatically import everything from your Outlook or OE emails/contacts etc when you first use it. I've just been trying to find OE on my PC to see if I can get into it - it must be there somewhere, surely MS force you to install it?

Today I tried contacting Microsoft re. my OE problem.
btw if some idiot told you to contact MS re any problem then I should never speak to them again if I were you, they obviously haven't got a clue what they're talking about.

If you've got a recent version of Windows you might find it's called Windows Mail rather than OE. Looks like very much the same thing, though.

I'm not on Vista Ruth (and I've no desire to be) so it's still called OE. I don't want to use the crumby programme though, I was just going to try starting it to see what it asked me to do re login etc.

Andy, it probably won`t surprise you to know that it was Virgin. Via Mumbai. Sigh. Thanks for the Thunderbird info. I`ve skim read it but will go back and read it in more detail a bit later. I much prefer the format to Virgin Webmail, much clearer to read. I don`t have Googlemail. Should I?

It's free so you've nothing to lose by signing up and giving it a go. It's going to be better than Virgin webmail I would guess. Added to which, if you decide you've had enough of Virgin as your ISP and go elsewhere, you won't have to change your email address yet again.

Mort, I have been at work today so missed out on this thread. What exactly do you find the problem with Outlook Express? I have it as my default emailer but as I am Virgin I can access it on any computer via Virgin webmail. Are you sure you have set the account up correctly with the POPs and stuff? I only ask cos I know your email address doesn't tell me you are Virgin but something else.
I have a hotmail, rarely used, and a Yahoo (cancelled because it was so intrusive)

After a morning off, I now have to go into work. Fortunately the afternoon's teaching isn't terribly arduous and I have an evening of preparing a lecture on the classical string quartet, to which I'm quite looking forward. Time for some clemenules.
I tried Thunderbird yesterday, but I need something that will interact with a Microsoft Exchange server. At the moment I can't get it to work with Entourage X, so I'm digging up (not literally) a more recent release from our library here (yes, we do have a staff license so it's all perfectly legal).

Ho MorticiaaaAAA^. I'm really sorry to hear that you are having problems with Virgin. I've been with them for about three years now and have not had a single problem with them, either web or eeeee-mail. I use Microsoft Outlook because I prefer it to "Express". I hope that things get cleared up for you soon. Cheers and hugs S'wave.
