What Bryn says is very true. Takes a couple of weeks, feels like a tunnel vision effect or that you are going dizzy, and you can miss your step when looking down, but I'm sure all that is nothing compared to getting used to lenses.

With varifocals, suddenly one day you don't know you're wearing them and many a time I've put my hand to my face to see IF I'm wearing them!

Thanks Bryn and Mary. I`ve heard they can take a while to adjust to, so I`m a tad apprehensive. Given my natural clumsiness and talent for self-injury Roll Eyes  I`ll tread cautiously Grin  In the meantime be prepared for an awful lot of typos as I type with my lenses in!

Edit.  See what I mean? I thought John was Mary Shocked  Sorry John. Sorry Mary Embarrassed Embarrassed

I don't think it was me, but I do have varifocals, and have never had any trouble at all with them, even at the beginning.

New Year's Eve, the crummiest night of the year. I can feel the depression coming on already with the tv news clips of festivities from down under. It isn't as if you can just go to bed early and forget about it because all hell will break loose with fireworks at midnight.

But as t-p would say, all things will pass. And I won't let my grump stop me from wishing everyone a very happy new year.

I`m with you there BobbyZ. I hate New Years Eve. It just makes me feel rather miserable. However seeing as this year has been such a complete pig of a year, I will be quite happy to kick it out the back door at midnight. If I`m still up.

Couldn't agree more.  Christmas is wonderful but New Year is crummy as you say.  I hate noisy fireworks at the best of times and unfortunately live in an area that encourages very frequent displays - any excuse!  I also hate looking back over the year's events on tv.  Mostly sad and sorry disasters - very rarely much to be proud of.

Just think how many people are going to spend the first day of next year, ill/hungover/in all sorts of trouble, due to the excesses of the night before.  How is that fun?

Just turned R3 off as more bloody Wagner - sorry to all those of you who like him. Undecided

Actually I've got the Dover book of Liszt's Complete Piano Transcriptions from Wagner's Operas out of the library at the moment so I might listen to some of those instead.

Talking of the library, I use my Sunbird calendar prog to remind me when books/CDs are due back. Got an email from them today to say that I've got 2 scores due back on 5/12, which I'd completely forgotten about Embarrassed - reminders only work if you remember to put them on the calendar!

PS I hate New Year's eve as well. I'm never in bed by 12 so the fireworks won't wake me up but they'll still annoy me.

I'm not fond of New Years Eve either, I'm normally in bed by 10.30pm and if I'm not then I just leave and go home.  Cheesy

I am not really a New Year's Eve sort of person either, but two of my dearest friends (Lord and Lady DoverHyphenSole, for the benefit of those who post at TOP) are hosting a NYE party, so I am off to deepest darkest Surrey this evening.  I can't remember the last time I went to a NYE party!

I am almost sorry not to be home as from my living room window I can see the top of the London Eye (albeit nearly 3 miles away) and it's good to watch the Thames fireworks from this distance.  I really really hate fireworks up close, and as I've said before, am thoroughly phobic about crowds.

Anyway, I'm currently listening to bloody Wagner on R3 Grin

Kindly leave the stage Member Antheil !!
Cheesy Cheesy  Although I hate New Years Eve, New Year Day will find me watching/listening to the concert from Vienna accompanied by some smoked salmon and few glasses of champers. It`s a little Mort ritual and very pleasant it is too Smiley

Actually, my grump is that owing to various commitments and happenings I simply haven't heard enough of the bloody Wagner on R3 ... Grin

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

I'm persevering through the bloody Wagner as I'm preparing the party table for our late afternoon/early evening celebration with all the family.  As background music goes, it sucks, but I'm having such a good time preparing party plates and salads that it isn't worrying me.  I'm not a Wagner fan although to be fair I've never really tried to be.  I haven't given Wagner the courtesy of my full attention - ever.  Must make a resolution to give him a try this year.

This little buffet will be the best part of New Year's Eve for me and it will be over probably by 9-ish because of the children.  I'll have a couple of glasses of bubble, we'll take Dudley for a last stroll and then bed and hope the noise of the fireworks is muted by the double glazing.  Sad
