...and another thing! On the so-called "real R3" IB MB I read the following posting delivered apparently 4 hours ago:
"Any piece of music introduced as 'in the form of an arch' which guarantees pretentious twaddle. I'd be prepared to listen to something described as 'in the form of a piece of dog pooh' since that, at least, shows originality"
This was what might be described (I suppose) as a "global candidate for Iain Burnside's Room 101".
Well, let me just say this: the so-called "arch form" is NOT "pretentious twaddle", but explains exactly what many composers attempted (often successfully). Look at - inter alia - Bartok's Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta (Movt 1), or (BASICALLY!!!!) any 18th-c binary dance movt.
The only thing that is "pretentious" or "twaddle" is the current BBC R3 MB, and I feel so sorry for all those who still post to it.
...and that's supposed to be "A RANT"!

Dear Baz,
Alas, I am unable to answer your question as the `Hand` chapter was torn from our textbooks by Sister Enid of the Perpetual Mortification of the Shameful Flesh. However, I believe that there exists a school of thought that advises people to follow their instincts in such matters. I can but pass this advice on to you in the hope that you find it helpful.
With all hopeful thoughts for you Mort
Thanks Mort - did you (incidentally, I wonder) take your log-in name from the "Perpetual Mortification of the Shameful Flesh", or was it by some coincidental accident? No matter! I am very grateful for your "hopeful thoughts", and trust that they will not (for ever anyway) be "in vain". Baz

And you can still smoke in Nero Not in Nero Hampstead you can`t, Martle. They stopped it months ago. Much to the irritation of the professional smoking Italian staff. Less customers in the mornings now than there used to be. Mutter, mutter, mutter.

...AND.....! Best of all - we're going to have a Tax DECREASE of 2p in the £ BUT - we're going to have to pay for it ourselves by having the 10p-in-the-£ tax doubled. Isn't that the best New-Labour con of all. The Prime Minister is dead! Long live the Prime Minister. Baz <1000 turds>

Be still my beating heart. Oh, joy unfettered fills my soul.
Someone pass the bloody wine. And the AK-47. Growl.
