They're self-evidently swine by the mere fact that they're involved in such scams, Mills: they're probably running off an ancient copy of the electoral roll for contacts. It's perfectly possible for businesses to purchase new editions of the register, but they'll just be working on the cheap as well as sly.

Does anyone know if there's anywhere I can send this stuff to report it? There's even a phone number on the letter!

Milly, you could try contacting the Mail Preference Service, Google will have the details. You can certainly register the name of someone who has died, but I'm not sure if they can prevent mailings from outside the UK. Good luck.

If you google International Lotto Commission, you'll find a lot about it, and I should think someone somewhere would tell you how to report it. It's a well-known scam, apparently.

Why do we have these self-destruct buttons that we seem unable to resist pressing? (sorry - should say 'I' not 'we') I was feeling a little low when I got in (don't ask me why - I don't really know) so I decided to put on the one album that I knew would trigger off thought processes the way of which I didn't like the cut of their jib. So to say. But I do want to listen to it... Nuts to it. It's coming off and act 3 of Tristan und Isolde's going on because I'll be more cheerful that way!

When did Good Friday cease to be a Public Holiday? I've never worked on Good Fridays (although one of our departments started to open 10.00-4.00 about 5 years ago). I now find our Company does not recognise Good Friday at all, it is "a normal working day" with the proviso that if you do work it you get an extra day off in lieu. Where's the sense in that? Why make people work Good Friday and then take the following Tuesday off?

Unless your contract specifically says that you get Bank Holidays off, there's not much you can do about it.

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)
