This whole bank holiday thing is very weird to me as a Yankee. We'd never get Good Friday (or related days) off as a federal holiday -- government establishment of religion, First Amendment, dontcha know. Yes, but we still have an established Church as well, don't forget, Ev. Too soviet, that would be.
Help you, I can. Find your friend. Yes. Helpful, that would be. Pleasure it is to hear iwis el Turfan joke.

The city is a process which always veers away from the form envisaged and desired, ... whose revenge upon its architects and planners undoes every dream of mastery. It is [also] one of the sites where Dasein is assigned the impossible task of putting right what can never be put right. - Rob Lapsley

Pathetic little baby grump. I went to the dentist today to have two mini mini fillings. My teeth hurt and feel absolutely enormous. Last night I didn't sleep very well - too much alcohol and coffee (which possibly explains the dreams) - which doesn't help. Just as I'm feeling settled, things are changing and I'm feeling a little bit adrift again.

My teeth are still sore and sensitive this morning but they do feel a bit better. Not as nice a day as yesterday. But I feel better for having had some sleep.

For this temp work thing, I got an email from the lady requesting a cv. I assumed I must have forgot to attach the one from the jobs website to her, so I sent her that. She then said that this was just the standard cv from the jobs website, if I couldn't send her something more detailed and personalised.
More detailed? The bloody horrid thing contains my contact details, work experience, education results (both college and leaving cert), technical skills, and reference-details. Even a stupid little one-liner hobbies section. Am I missing anything?!

Inky, I think this may call for the feminine side (herewith Alfie Boe as Elektra)stuff-sort of a light-toned mission statement that will invite discussion. There is an advantage I find-in social care mainly- in approaching interviews as pro bona as-from-the-inside conversations, to which I think you may find adding some 'mood music' would lead. I think of this, such as I have it, as a transferable skill from musicianship.I find it makes reaching a working agreement easier to dispense with the formality or direct it to hr.Good luck anyway.

They're probably conditioned into expecting those vapid gushy personal mission statements which certainly crop up on many of the C.V.s I've seen in the past few years.... "I am a hard-grafting individual who loves his work and enjoys meeting people and helping them to attain greater satisfaction in their employment and life in general..." seems to be about the general tenor. [Edit.] For extra points, the words 'challenge' and 'flexibility' need to put in an appearance, too.

HR departments love meaningless flannel. It's their substitute for achievement.

Poor old 'HR' departments. We all loathe them. I'm almost beginning to feel sorry for them. I can never resist pretending not to know what 'HR' stands for and then politely but rather obviously stifling amused disbelief when they tell you. It's quite an art making it sound unrehearsed but well worth the rewards if you can manage it.

We in the tecchie enclave of a large public sector organisation - where we like to comfort ourselves with the thought that nobody understands us - tend to refer to HR as Human Remains.

I'm waiting for two phone calls. One I expected to get within half an hour of being promised it yesterday, the other I was told I would get in five minutes at, oh, about 11 o'clock.
I'm rather afraid to actually use my phone for anything in case I should miss them now.
Sometimes I think I would be best with two phones, one incoming, and one outgoing.
