Well.......

I was going to have a grump and a rant about how yet another thread had been hijacked by pictures.  This is suposed to be a GRUMPY OLD RANT room - can't you people read.  There is no space for frivolity and so-called 'amusing' pictures with accompanying attempts at witicism!

But then Mort posted that last one, so I had to think again... Wink

Actually A, I was joking.

Haven't had a bad day, even though I had to get up early after a sleepless and uncomfortable Hotel room night (missing breakfast), sit in a meeting all day, eat only wimpish sandwiches for lunch, fly back home from Edinburgh and the plane was delayed, and get home to find no decent food in the fridge.....

I think the day is OK because I am now home, but aso because of a few really interesting threads on this forum.  The pictures are fun, but the converation with others is the bit that I really like.

Tommo

PS Thanks for the shoulder offer, anyway

I've just been on the R3 boards.
I don't know whether to  Cry or to  Angry
I miss my girlfriend.
Got another 2.5 weeks before I see her again.
The year seems to be sliding effortlessly away from me.
I've got to knuckle down and work but the phone keeps ringing, and staff and students keep on asking me to do new things.
There are lots of great things happening, but there are days when I want them all to go away so that I can sink into the depths of my king-sized duvet and not have to worry about my bank balance.
Bother.
I need to change banks. I've been putting it off and putting it off, but I'm going to have to now.
I'm nearly out of money and my current bank doesn't want to count me as a student any more (ergo no overdraft).
Got to switch to one that believes me... and does a good deal in graduate loans.
Why is life so difficult?

hh,

If life were easier, there'd be less internal conflict to start those creative juices which marinate your ideas!

As for the other board, it's starting resemble a piece of collaborative performance art masterminded by Kafka, Tom Sharpe and Pinter; Kafka for the sense of nightmare paranoia, Tom Sharpe for the cumulative idiocy and Pinter, not only for unspoken menace but the great long pauses (holes where once were posts).

Ooh! I'm quaking. But it's not with fear or shame. It's RAGE!
Well, actually not. It's more like disappointment, but you don't quake with disappointment. So I'm just going to go downstairs and grill some white pudding to go in tomorrow's sandwiches.
I have to talk about Henry Cowell, Edgar Varese, and Charles Ives tomorrow.
Here's hoping that the library actually has some recordings of Cowell, otherwise I'm just going to have to do Aeolian Harp myself.

Bother.
The Cowell disk that I wanted (I fancied playing them The Tiger) is 'In Transit' which takes up to a month (going from the cataloguing centre to the actual library).
Good job I've got some fingernails at the moment.

How did it go harmony/harmony? I don't know Cowel, never heard of him. I would come to listen to something said about him.
I don't know why life is difficult and am amazed at how composers transform their experiences into great music. I am looking at Wagner now. He had to wait for success for so long. Some get it faster. But Wagner demanded good financial support and always believed in himself. This is good. But how many times was he exhiled or bankrupt? One can admire his vitality, I think. Positive outlook is very helpful.

Exams.

I am grumpy about exams. Over the age of 50 I thought I'd never sit exams again, but I wanted to add a qualification to my consultancy business card, paid nearly 1000 pounds for a college course, sat the three exam papers and heard this week that I'd have to resit one of them. Remembering how much I wrote in that paper I can't believe I only got 40% marks ! So I must have wrote a load of crap then  Roll Eyes

Today I'm told that nationwide only 53% passed that paper. That compares with over 90% last year. Now you see why I'm grumpy. Eight students in our class (of 13) have to resit paper 1.

Additional grump - because the results took 10 weeks to come out we are too late to register for the March resit. The next resit is in June, and we won't get the results till September which is a whole year since I first applied for the course.

I'm really grumpy because I deserved a lot more than 40% in that bloody paper  Angry Cry Embarrassed Undecided Lips sealed
