I already changed my previous post.

I seems to think that he lived somewhere there. People said that he insists on writing serious music, but he is better with popular music.
I am probably mixed up. I did not know the name at a time.
There were many classical music lovers in Aberystwyth (not musicians).
It is such a pitty they closed music department there.
But they had a good lunch time recitals and they were free.

I don't know much of Tippett music.
I like to hear that one. Is it good?

I seems to remember that some people Tippett would be better with popular music. I am probably mixed up.

Yeah I belive it is. Ive only heard it a few times. Sonata for Four Horns, if my memory serves me well!!!

Did'nt Beethoven write a Horn quintet?

He certainly wrote a sonata for horn and piano, op.17 - and here is Dennis Brain playing it. It's quite amusing how, in the spoken introduction, he demonstrates part of the sonata on the natural horn, probably at least as well as any HIP player could do it now, and then switches to the valved instrument for the actual performance without any explanation of why he isn't playing on the instrument the piece was written for. Times have changed since then.

Mozart wrote a horn quintet.
I'm planning to include a string trio rather than anything more esoteric to sit beside the horn.
But given the way that this solo has turned out, I may have to rethink.

I love to play that Horn sonata.

I have in front of me now R-K Quintet for Flute, Clarinet, Horn, Bassoon and piano. It doesn't have op. number and it is in Bb major.

I know they recently played it on radio 3, but I was could not listen and missed it.
I want to hear it (and better play it) very much. I have the music and all, but no people to play with at the moment.

I also have Brahms Trio op 40 for piano, violin and horn (or viola or cello)

Since I am in grumpy room I can grump about not being able to play these two works that I have.

There are some nice Schubert songs for voice & piano, with obbligato horn too Smiley

I know composer who does that, brassbandmaestro.

He uses a lot of Irish traditional tunes. He is writing a piece now for piano and brass quartet (I think is piano brass quintet, but am not sure). I have to ask him again.

I couldn't believe it this morning when on Radio3 Sarah Mohr - Pietsch referred to a celloist. Angry

Well, she's young yet and the 4am reveille is an acquired bit of wherewithal. But sure, changing standards and all that. Your old school R3 announcers were evidently trained act-ors so were used to enounciating in all weathers and personal states. Now, the newbies  are tame parish pump celebs elect. But I sense she's getting her feet under the desk in putting her stamp on the thing.
