Thanks for that Mort. I've now gleaned that they're unlikely to let me in in the morning and that they're waiting for cancellations to do the op, but the best time I can ring is 10am. 10am!!! That's a 4 hour lie in! Mort you are an angel. Officially. Thank you so much. xxx

I'm not supposed to be here. I'm supposed to be soundly asleep. I snuggled up, nice and warm under my duvet, switched the light out and PING! I'm awake. Why is anyone's guess. Got bored after about an hour and a half and I've just nommed down some toast and scone with a mug of milk. Still don't feel drastically tired so will probably try and do some work sat up in bed until the zonk fairy returns. Grump.

I am so glad that other people have the same experience I recently had.
I came home late last night. We went to Athenry with a friend looking for a piano to hire for opera gala. They only have mini baby grand of chinese origine that will not suit us. With some difficulty we were able to find another agent who can supply appropriate size of a piano for the concert. He is in the North. Nothing closer was available. After driving around we came back for the evening rehearsal. Before that we had to eat. It turn out that one can not have any sandwiches or soup between 6 to 7.30. We were waiting for the food for close to 45 min before they told us that they don't have it. Needless to say that rehearsal was terrible. My friend (who was conducting for our conductor this time) doesn't know what downbeat is and he changes it at will. My electric piano was not suitable for playing what I have to play. Some people had one page missing (different pages though, not all in one place).
I came home so tired that I fall asleep right away. I woke up an hour ago and am still is in grumpy mood.

The worse thing happened at the very end of the rehearsal. I am going to use different piano for real performance and we both (with conductor) tried to make different sounds on it (harp sound, organ sound). We probably pushed too many buttons. During the last number we played the piano switched to demo tape. I was terrified because strange sounds were coming from the piano and it did not feel to me that I was making them. Finally I stopped, but the piano kept going. People in the orchestra at first gave me strange looks and then they saw that I am not playing, but the piano does. Everyone laughted and I was embarrassed. I am glad this rehearsal is over. They are bad spoons indeed, increpation.

I'm sure nobody was laughing at you, t-p! I take it this was an electric piano, in which case the demo tunes are frequently quite amusing, and I'd bet it was the instrument itself that aroused their humour. Probably best to leave these buttons alone in future!

I can't understand why, if you are to use a different ( presumably normal) piano at the performance that you messed around with harp and organ sounds trained-pianism, the demo tape is the first things that children play with but rarely anyone else!!! If it is an orchestra.. don't you have a harp anyway? A

we have nine piece orchestra: string quartet, double bass, horn, flute, clarinett and horn. I am playing clavinova. Some times it is on piano stop, some times it is on harpsichord or string sound and some times harp or organ. I have to be very versatile. At this moment I am kind of concerned. I am afraid to forget to change the sound or not to count my empty bars properly. They are going to write melody in my score so it will be easier for me.

I did play organ for a few months on our organ here. It is beautiful organ. I even went as far as to play feet pedals. Our master here likes heel technique (or to change from heel to toes). I found it difficult. Plus I had to buy special shoes. On the whole I loved playing organ. I found the touch (more detached than in piano playing) challenging too. I love to play organ, but I don't think I will be good on it. I love harpsichord, but we don't have it here.

Have more confidence in yourself. Dont let your inhibitions get to you. Relax and be secure with your knowledge and not be too inhibitive!!!

Thank you, bbm. To play poliphony on organ is very difficult.
If I had more time I would play organ more. I know what pieces I like to play. I have a grump. I should have been practising my pieces for concert and gala opera. Instead I was playing Chopin Study in Ab op. 10, N 10 there. I did not play that much today. I played this study before and I do like it. It is just strange to play different pieces than the ones I should have been practicing.
