I must check up on that switching-off-phones-in-hospitals thing. I know it used to be essential, my dad works in the radiation physics department at a big cancer hospital in Manchester and never used to have his mobile turned on at work, but he seems to switch it on these days. Maybe just because he spends more time in his office, but I'm sure he told me some other reason why it doesn't matter so much any more ... On the subject of memory, I've put at least four things down in the last couple of days and within 5 minutes been completely unable to find them, sparking off a huge search which in each case has culminated in me finding them right next to my desk or wherever I'd been sitting.

Sympathy TIN. I have similar problems with memory. I can remember the most abstruse and trivial bits of information, but rely heavily on the notepad and voice memo in the mobile.

Tinners, there was some research done, as far as the mobile phone is concerned, where they found that mobile phones did not interfere with certain sensitive equipment. I am not too sure now, on this, wether other people here know, I am not sure.

On the mobile phone subject - I went for an X-ray on Wednesday and I asked then if I had to switch my phone off and they said "Not any more". They all keep theirs switched on.

Which begs the question why the hospital last week don't just take all the notices down. Maybe it's to stop the patients all annoying the hell out of them and each other by constantly being on the phone. Thinking about it, that's probably exactly why! God, imagine if hospitals were like Coach E on the 8.33 to Kings Cross...

Can't someone spread a rumour that radiation from 'Loose Women' can switch off everyone's pacemakers.

There are times when I can imagine that having your own phone would be rather nice (e.g. to make outgoing calls), but I just can't see how you'd make sure that everyone was considerate.

I have just received a letter for a previous occupant for the flat. This is fine and happens quite often. I return them with the information 'Addressee Gone Away. Please Return To Sender.' But I can see very clearly through the window the words 'NOTIFICATION OF LEGAL...' I have lived here for nearly 12 months now and have had to send back one of these before. I suspect it's the same debt-recovery agency. What do I do? What if a bailiff turns up?

God, imagine if hospitals were like Coach E on the 8.33 to Kings Cross... Being cynical, I supect that the ban is much more to do with protecting the business of those companies that have wormed their way into hospitals to offer overpriced bedside phone services (for both incoming and outgoing calls) - whose businesses would melt away if patients and visitors were allowed to use their mobiles. Knowing the rapaciousness with which these companies operate, it is likely that hospitals are bound into heinous penalty clauses if their revenue falls below a certain level.

hh. I used to get a lot of those when I moved here. I gave up sending them back because they just kept coming. I took to opening them and contacting the company direct to explain the situation. They were fine about it and the letters stopped coming. DO NOT wait until a Bailiff turns up!! Open the letter. NOW.

Can you see the name of the agency concerned, hh? Is there an address? Can you find them on the internet or find a number for them? I'd suggest direct contact, to tell them that their 'client' has moved on: if you're just returning their mail without explaining why, they can't really update their system, can they? For all they know, it might be the debtor him/herself returning the mail....

Have some ID by the door (preferably photo) and tell them it isn't you and give them the date when the people moved out. Failing that open the letter and ring them direct to tell them they've gone. Oh as you were. Just seen Ron's.
